Senior Housing (Huntington, Weirton, Martinsburg: rental, income, lease)

The man I spoke about is disabled...and 50 yrs old. The age requirement for most of these new apartment complexes is 62. From what I understand, at 62, anyone with minimum income qualifications can qualify. The rent is 25% of the monthly income.

Mr. X has an income of about $600 and his rent in a very nice apartment complex is $91.00 per month, that includes garbage, water and sewage.

Well, I was told that anyone who receives less than $712 per month, is considered low income poverty level and qualifies for many of these programs. I have come to find out that this is not always the case and every state has their own requirements. I can't imagine anyone earning less than $712 a month not being able to qualify for some kind of assistance. I am convinced the real problem is all the folks who abuse the system and those of us who really need it now suffer because of that abuse. If you would have told me as a young man I would be disabled before I hit 55, I would have thought you crazy.

In N.J. where I am now theres senior apartments available to anyone with a income of 2,500 a month and rents are calculated and most pay about 30% after adjustments for elderly status for those over 62 and excess medical expense, however those that are between 55 and 62 are eligible also.that are on a fixed income. And everything is included in rent such as electric,heat,and maintenance.

x1x yes I got that, I guess what I am really asking is what balance are you looking for? Trying not to step on any toes here. In Nichols County, WV, I would say that the racial balance is heaviest toward the white people. I know they have Sr housing in Summersville, because my Aunt lives there and her rent is based on a % of her income. Her monthly income is NO where near 2,500 month. I am not sure how they do the utilities. Summersville is a nice little town, with a beatiful lake.

Here in Texas because I earn less than the $712 (who ever came up with that figure) a month, the state pays for my Medicare payment and my Medicare RX program. If it were not for that, my check would be around $560 and I have no idea how I would survive on that. This is one of my main concerns in relocating to WV. If I don't qualify there for the same program... I am in a heap of trouble!

BJC I understood you well, and it was a good question, My only concern is that I'm not interested in being the only white jelly bean in the bag!!!! Now I sincerely hope I'm not stepping on toes?
