My uncle moved from Pittsburgh to Bluefield in 1952, met his wife there, had two daughters raised them there, struggled to make a living in the mine safety industry, lost his wife€ a couple of years ago and is now physically unable to get around much. A typical American family story, with some highlights.

One of his daughters (my cousin) became a full professor at the Univ of VA in Blacksburg, the other became a registered physical therapist. One of them is still living in Bluefield, raising her own family. I doubt they encounter drug-related activities any more than most of us do in almost any city. However, I doubt that it's ever going to be a wealthy area.

Go to (broken link) It gives much information on any school of your choosing from K through 12 i.e., ethnicity, econonomically disadvantaged, teacher per student ratio, test scores, etc. Parent reviews are also listed but one has to be a member to view those or leave a comment.

I think there is another site call (broken link) that gives information about colleges but I'm not positive about that one.
