Disabled Vet seeking a good home to move to
Hello, I'm a disabled vet and wish to move my family to the beautiful Mountain State. I have posted a couple of times searching for a log cabin near WVU, where our son plans to attend. But with no succes in the leads. So I'm at the point where I would look at pretty much any type of housing in the state. Would prefer a log home but it's not a neccesity. SO any help would be wonderful...

Consider Huntington as you look for a new place to live. Huntington is the second largest city in the state having just under 50,000 residents. Being one of the largest cities in the state, Huntington has plenty to offer in terms of things to do, theater, art, medical care, etc. Huntington is also home to Marshall University and has the added benefit that having a Division 1 school brings in terms of sporting events, more theater and arts programs and better healthcare through the med school partnering with both of the local hospitals as well as the VA med Center in Huntington. If you want to see the area before you visit, you can actually rent the movie "We Are Marshall" as most of it was filmed in Huntington. The Huntington area also offers good shopping with Pullman Square and all of the local shops downtown as well as the state's largest shopping center at the Huntington Mall. The Huntington Parks and recreation district also offers some top notch parks for you to enjoy with the best of these being Ritter Park.
In terms of finding a log cabin, there are several in the area both new and old but I'm not sure if any are currently for sale. Huntington does offer some beautiful old homes though with many of them being built aroud the turn of the 20th century. Home prices in the area are also very affordable with the local market going against the national trend and actually seeing an increase of 7% in both sales and home prices. Huntington is also right at 3 hours from WVU and the trip is all interstate, making it an extremely easy drive. I actually attended WVU and would sometimes make a trip down only for a day with no trouble when circumstances dictated that I do so. Below are some links to give you a better idea of the area. Let me know if you have any other questions.

'Bud Stalnaker is the master builder of log homes in the North Central Wv area. Over 35 years in the business. Has built entire subdivisions of log homes. He lives in Fairmont and that town is about 30 minutes from WVU. Give him a call: 304.534.5594.

I don't know what you are looking for, all of WV is beautiful. I do know there is no doubt a Century 21 in all areas. Check with all of them. In Hampshire Co I know they have companies who just build log homes. Check the net in search.. word for word.. like Log Home, Romney, WV or something and you can find anything. There are many old 200 yr old homes in the area as well. They are all over. My son lives in one of the original 200 yr old ones.
Good luck,
