So, I'm hoping to move in June or July at the latest (those are my target months). I figure I'll spend a lot of time walking around Morgantown's walkable downtown (whatever parts there are)... What trails, hikes, or parks are within 30 minutes of there if any? I know I can get involved with a church and there will be activities with that and I can meet people. Also the job (whatever it ends up being) will run me into people.
I'm not a bar hopper- though I turn 21 this May I don't really drink.. and I can't dance at all so I don't do clubs. My sister visited motown and said its just a bunch of bars.. but I don't think thats true. anyway, when you're in morgantown, what do you enjoy doing? Are there any really nice (baptist, methodist, nondenominational, assembly of God, full gospel churches in morgantown with some people in their 20's)? a big help would be like a visitors flyer on the area... they always give you some good starter ideas. Going to look now actually. Thanks! |

Cooper's Rock State Forest, about 20 minutes east of downtown Morgantown on I-68. Almost 13,000 acres.

Your sister is right about the bars in Morgantown-- there are a lot there for a town its size. Top 101 zip codes with the most alcohol drinking places in 2005 (they are #87-- with 26 bars)
The downtown area may not have as much shopping and dining as you may be used to in Annapolis. Most of the retail establishments and restaurants are on the outskirts of town. So there may be a lot of driving involved, depending on where you live. (FYI-- try to avoid driving across town between 2:30 and 6:30ish, that's when traffic downtown is at it's worst! )However, the rail trail system downtown is great. You can walk, jog or ride your bike through Morgantown, Star City and up into Preston County, if you wish. I did that a few times and I think its like a 20-30 mile trip, one way. It's a pretty easy ride because it flat, since it used to be railraod tracks, it is just a slow grade and you don't really notice that you are going uphill or downhill. If your looking for other things to do, don't forget the university. There are always sporting events, lecture series, concerts, and art shows sponsored by the school throughout the year. Good luck with you move! |
