Default Apartment in Morgantown

Hi, we are moving to Morgantown in the summer. We plan to rent initially and would want a nice 2-3 bedroom apartment/townhouse within walking distance from the West Virginia University hospitals, not near student housing. Can anyone suggest some nice apartments to check out?

Also, how good are the libraries at Morgantown?

Thanx!

GlenMark has about 800 new townhouses on the backside of the hill from Mongeneral Hospital..part of a 2300 unit complex...Opposite the new Krogers..Public Library is good...WVU research libraries are fabulous...all the new bookstore chains are here....now...that's the real library!

I would recommend looking into the townhomes rented by Campus View Apartments on Morgan Drive in Suncrest. Although it is not within walking distance of the hospitals, it would be a very short drive (1-3 miles). Actually, you probably could walk if you wanted to, but there aren't may sidewalks and it's a bit hilly over there. Most of the apartments in the Health Sciences Center/stadium area, and anywhere that is within walking distance of the hospitals will be FULL of students. Just something you should be aware of.

My husband and I rented a townhome on Morgan Drive (3 years ago)and we loved it. This isn't student houing-- there are a lot of singles/grad students, young families, and some older people in a more established, residential neighborhood. The house itself had 2 nice sized bedrooms (with nice closets), 1 1/2 bathrooms, equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, washer/dryer, a patio, balcony and off-street parking. When our lease ran out mid-2004, we were only paying $600/month, plus utilites.

As for the libraries in Morgantown, they are both relativley new. The Morgantown public library underwent a renovation in the early to mid-1990's and the Downtown Campus/Wise Library (WVU's) was remodeled and had a new addition in 2002ish(?). They are both very nice and should have most everything you would expect in a library.

Here are the library links:

Good luck with your move and hope this helps!

Well, everything within walking distance from the hospital will have students. And lots of them. The only exception I can think of insofar as renting is Chestnut Ridge. In their large building they try to house older people and get gestapo-like with noise violations. Of course the majority of the students on the Suncrest side of town are medical/dental/pharmacy/graduate students, anyway. I doubt you'll get much trouble out of any of them. I've lived near the hospital for 5 years and I've never been bothered by noise/obnoxiousness once. The only part of town with a more upscale feel is Cheat Lake....and that's a bit of a drive.

As for a townhouse....Morgantown is the townhouse capitol of the universe. If I were staying in Mo'town, I'd consider one of the townhouses on or near West Run Road. Taking Pineview Dr. you can drive to the hospital parking lot within 5 minutes any time of the day. Ask anyone from town....a 5 minute commute is worth a boar's weight in gold.
