Oak Hill Feedback
My husband and I have the possibility of purchasing an acre with two mobile home in this area from his cousin. (very low cost) I would like to eventually leave my state and relocate. I know it is somewhat repressed...but I want to visit and become familiar with everything in the area. I have a Social Work Degree, but would like to just provide support in the public schools as a para or aid. I want the school schedule for my kids...not the money. What do I need to do in order to qualify for this type of job in WV? I have the college degree and 14 years of experience working in Human Services and in the Early Childhood field. I am just researching to come up with a future plan. Thanks. I also want to find out what the climate is like.....is it somewhat warmer down there than in the northeast where i currently reside? Would like to start corresponding with some West Virginians....LOL to start some friendships before we begin visiting.

Thanks a bunch! I sent an email with the questions I mentioned in my post. I am still eager to find out so much about the area. I hope others start posting responses. Information like cheap places to buy groceries, health clinics, schools...all this information is so important.

I don't see very many posters from that Fayette County area...but the area is one of the very best scenic places in West Virginia. Summersville Lake and hot summers...Oak Hill is getting the Interstate spur from 119.
Growth factor will make finding a great place impossible in a few years...everybody is returning to Wv and the old time family values..good luck...
I'm sure the education system will help you fulfill your dreams..when you vist, go to see the person you have e-mailed...talk to them face to face...they will remember when you move into the community and are ready to help with that job.

I did some research on my own regarding the qualifications for paraprofessional certification in WV. I have a phone number to call regarding the process. I'm not certain whether I need to already be employed in a WV school prior to applying..that's what I need to find out. I meet the other qualifications, so it should be fairly simple. If not, I will apply for certification prior to my move, just to be all set when I begin applying for positions after the move.

If you will be working as a subcontractor a license or permit might be required by the state...give the Secretary of State's Office a call or email...
Betty Ireland has bought this state office into the 21st century...a great lady.

Tell me about West Virginia winters.....are they as long and cold as here in the northeast? I looked at the weather there today and it seems comparible to where I am right now!......I am hoping it comes and goes in snaps and is not quite as harsh as VT.

I've been reading the other posts and they are helpful as well for me to obtain a better picture of the state. In regards to gardening, can one safely plant a garden down their in April? Is the risk of frost low during that month? We can't plant safely until Memorial Day in VT. There is so much to learn. I am eager to come down for a visit soon....but work responsibilities tie me down greatly.
