I was reading the Inter-Mountain online, and came across a heroin bust in Elkins. Someone posted a comment that this was a bigger problem than commonly known, and is getting out of control. Admittedly, I don't have first hand knowledge, but I am getting the impression that there are few, if any, ideal places left in todays world and it's mostly wishful thinking. I live close to FSU but in a neighborhood which reminds me of the one I grew up in, where we used to leave the cars and houses unlocked all the time. Only I looked back in the archives of the Times west Virginian and see that someone on my street got carjacked and kidnapped a couple years ago. A girl was murdered right down the street a while back, and a guy up by the McDonalds on the 250. Also a girl went missing 3 or 4 years ago; a guy was murdered at a bar a couple months ago; Habitual drunk drivers, and, hey, this is one of the nicer places! Good luck finding that ideal place...

I've never heard of any heroin busts in Elkins. But it wouldn't surprise me. In Huntington we've had 9 overdoses this year alone. But don't get the impression that WV is just one big drug bust waiting to happen. Drugs are everywhere and small towns and large cities across the nation are all facing epidemics of this problem. Our national government needs to do more to address this problem.

Heroin is a secret problem here in our area. The high school kids are hooked at 15/16.
What the parents do when its discovered is to get them into a clinic and put them on the substitute...methadone...I'm seeing a push to set up more clinics and wonder where the money will come from to fund them.
These are the good kids...just having a good time and one time does it.
Nobody in the systems want to get involved...schools, churches...easier to let it go by..
These kids steal and sell their parents things to support the habit.

Makes me sick...when I was a kid, you knew what you did and didn't do...They do not have that information/message...everything is ok to do...sex, dope....no accountablity in our liberal world because nobody is at fault...being at fault is politically incorrect...It's more important to save the whales than ourselves.

Default Sissonville Life

Just wondering, if Sissonville is where my husband and i decide to settle... How far is it from South CHarleston? How far is a decent sized shopping center? Mall? Does it seem pretty safe as far as drugs and gangs go? David, you helped alot with my other inquiries. Please give me as much feedback as you can? Property taxes? Another thing is apartments, rentals. We may want to rent for a little while before buying a house. Are there quite a few apt complexes? Thanks for all you can share

I don't think any gangs exist..the dope is coming to the colleges from the Carolina's and the mob in Detroit and Cleveland (as it has for years)
South Charleston is about 10/15 minutes on the expressway loops. As would be the downtown shopping and centers...Sissonville is nice because its country and right on the edge and hidden from the city....a valley that rises to the top of a long ridge.
You need to check it out...believe me, it will be the place.
Phone the city office complex for information...
I hope to get down there soon...have a good friend on the Pritt Plantation that I need to say hello to...
I hate the drive to Ctown...longest drive in Wv.

Default Sounds great

can't thank you enough, David. I get a feeling it's the place for me. We are coming down the end of May for an interview. Exciting. We'll look around and see what's there. Looking forward to the trip. I didn't get what you said about the county office. What's that? I'll reread your post.

Is there a mall in Sissonville? How far would that be from South Charleston? I do appreciate all your advice.
I suggest you head south of charleston down rte 119 and check it out on a road trip. I'm sure you'll find what you're describing as relevant to your tastes. The lot sizes are more conducive to gardening than north charleston or charleston proper, and it seems more park like down that way. I've seen many listings in that area for about $130k. A few of the hospitals would have a 15 min commute from there.

Thumbs up Thanks so much Harborlady

I will check that out too when we get here the end of the month. It sounds good. What are some of the names of the towns down that way. I'll remember 119 in case. I think we may be wiser to get an apt first. I am hopiing to find some apts for rent either in Sissonville or down that way(119) I am wondering if they have shopping areas there too. In your opinion, what's WV's best hospital? I mean reputation wise
Thanks so much!
