I think you could find affordable housing in the Martinsburg area in your price range. Taxes would diffently be better. I think there has been some folks who were recently transfered to the GM Dist. center here in Martinsburg from NC. If you are interested in the school systems, call the Berkeley County Board of Education. They can give you info on schools, and teaching jobs in the area. We are also within easy driving distance of Hagerstown and Winchester.

I don't know how many times I have to say it - RUN FOR YOUR LIFES! Burn rubber, don't look back. The economy is bad, schools are sub-par, downtown is dead and Walmart IS the central hub of the community.

Ok 3run, let's hear it, please........... By the way, Bowling Green would not seem likely to have many openings, because...
1.) they build the Corvette, a gas hog with slow sales and a dim future....
2.) hundreds of thousands of GM workers have been laid off in neighboring states: Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Mo. ( over several years), and Bowling green has been absorbing them. But, who knows, it's still worth a try.

What was the final choice? WV or another plant?
I lived, owned a business, and then worked in Martinsburg from 1991-2002 and while it was a big change coming for the NYC area (being a single make dating was a challenge) I made some great friends and enjoyed my life in the panhandle. I like all the data I have seen in these links, but I also think it is what you make of it. I lived on the edge of a farm outside of Shepherdstown and LOVED IT.
the panhandle has issues, so does everywhere, but I would move back if there was a position for me.
All the best.

My comment had nothing to do about Bowling Green's Corvette center but the overall pride in their town.

FWIW, York might be about 1 1/2 hours from Martinsburg (use either US 30 to I-81 or go west from York to US 15, go south to Frederick, and then follow US 340 and WV 9).

I know this is completely unrelated to this thread's topic. But I'm just curious, how do you start your own thread, any help? Thanks!
