I haven't been to Wheeling in years and years. My aunt living there tells me it has changed drastically over the years with crimes and problems. Anyone in Wheeling know anyone with last name of "Boring."? Those are some of my relatives down there.

My daughter used to know a girl named Amanda Boring I think. Probably in HS now. Wheeling is still relatively crime free. There are a few neighborhoods with more drugs/crime, just like anywhere. I think overall it is amazingly safe. It does have a problem with jobs, as the business climate in the city is very antagonistic. Really crazy and sad how backwards the city is. Otherwise, it is a very nice place to live (I've been here 20 years.)

My husband's grandfather was from Wheeling. His name was George Ham Ward and had a brother named David W Ward. Does anyone know if there are still Wards living there? Any info would be appreciated.

The Wards are largely from across the river in Martins Ferry, OH as I remember it.

Wheeling, like all the river industrial towns, has had more than its share of economic woes. At one time it was absolutely lovely, with beautiful victorian homes with river views and a prosperous industrial base. The rich elitists of both political parties have ruined much of that by insuring the best jobs were sent overseas. It still has some very nice areas, and it has the world's best municipal park system thanks to the generosity of the family of an early industrial mogul. It also has a nice liberal arts college located there, and is very near several colleges. It's about a 45 minute drive to Pittsburgh depending on traffic. The city government is from the stone ages, and that is one of the biggest problems in town.
