Default Moving To Waverly WV Area

Hi All...

I am moving to Waverly, WV for college. It will be just me and my Fiance. I'm having trouble finding rental homes/apartments that are relatively near my college (Meredith Manor). Can anyone reccomend a nice place to rent that is 400 a month or below?

I'll also have to find a job when I'm down there to help support my school costs etc... what is the job market like down there? I'm moving from MI and this is the only state I've ever lived in, and I have never been to WV before.

I am moving by the first of August. Like some of the other posters on here, I can't find good websites to find rental homes/apartments. Thank you in advanced for any helpful information you guys give me

A littl OT, are there any pet stores down there that sell Ferrets by chance?

Hello,
I saw that you weren't getting a response, so I registered to see if I could help, since I do live in the area. Hello everyone, it's my first post!

Searching online isn't going to be your best bet. While our local newspaper does have a website, much of the news and want-ads aren't included there. There are more rentals than you'll see online. You could subscribe to the Parkersburg News and Sentinel and they'll mail it to you, or possibly someone else could mail the rentals page.

There's another publication here, called Bulletin Board, I get a new one each Wednesday. It's full of anything imaginable, for sale, rent, barter, employment and freebies. I just gave mine a quick glance and there's 1 1/2 pages of rental apartments ranging from $250 up to around $575 for a townhouse. The Bulletin Board usually has more listings than the newspapers.

Some locations you could consider, depending on the distance you'll want to drive to Meredith on Rt.31, Parkersburg, Williamstown, and Vienna are all roughly 5-8 miles from Meredith Manor. Then there's also Marietta, Ohio right across the river from Williamstown, and Belpre, Oh. across from Parkersburg. Waverly, WV is more rural or suburban, with Parkersburg and Vienna being the city centers.

The job market in this area is somewhat depressed, career jobs being the hardest to find. There are some jobs available, much depends on your needs and qualifications, of course. There are always a few places with high turnover rates which are hiring continually.

You should be able to find a ferret in at least one pet store, and there are three ads for ferrets in the Bulletin Board this week.

I don't believe they have a subscription service, but they might mail a single copy. Their main office number is 304-422-9414. If that fails, I could possibly mail one, but we'll have to set up a hotmail account, since there doesn't seem to be a private message function on this board. I'm sure you don't want your mailing address posted here.

That's what I ended up doing. I went down there a couple weeks ago and found an apartment. I also went and drove by the school and took a look... defenitily old school! lol
I wasn't looking for a room mate because I'm moving down with my fiance. We found an apartment in Parkersburg (it's about 15 mins from merideth manor) that is a 2 bedroom and allows pets (one of our biggest deciding factors) and it's only $449 a month... we're happy

What did you find in the job market if anything? I'm looking to apply to Meredith Manor myself and need to see if my boyfriend could find a job there while I attended school. He's a mechanical engineer if that helps at all. Any "real" jobs nearby?
