Hampshire County
We are a family of 6 looking to relocate. Does anyone have any information or thoughts, comments on Hampshire County? We are a family who needs to start our lives over, and are having a very difficult time trying to find where. not to mention at the previous moment, we are on a limited budget. Any info. would be great, and greatly appreciated. thanks

Hampshire County is very pretty area with a great deal of mixed housing stock. Depending on where you are in Hampshire, commuting to Winchester VA for medical, shopping and employment is not too bad. Romney is a small town and jobs are not too easy to come by.
There are a lot of vacation / second home developments popping up all over the place out there and I would imagine growth in Winchester VA will fuel a mini-boom in real estate.
Recently the schools system lost their accreditation, but not for reasons to be overly concerned about. I believe those problems have since been worked out. I would Google Hampshire County and Hampshire County schools if you want additional information about it.

I would suggest giving the county next door a good look...Hardy County with the major town being Moorefield. Excellent schools in the center of town...Jobs in every direction and easy access with the new interstate at their front door. Romney and Hampshire Co. would be expensive and remote...

Hi, I am a current resident in Hampshire County. It is a very beautiful and peaceful place. We have been here for about 3 years. I have 2 sons currently in the schools and it is ok, the elementary (Slanesville) is very small...only 2 classrooms per grade and the HS is very large as it holds the kids from all over. The job situation in Romney and immediate areas is not that great and as someone mentioned above the commute to Winchester, Morefield is not to bad. My husband commutes to Winchester daily. We are actually getting ready to leave the area for a job relocation and I am really having mixed feelings as it is such a beautiful place. Housing here is pretty decent, depends on what you are looking for. In my area there are a few homes for sale for about $200,000 or so each with about 2 acres. Renting isn't too bad either, most rentals go for about $400-800 a month; however, I haven't seen anything quite large enough for 6 lately in the rentals (we have 6 as well).
We have a teenager and I see a big difference in him and the "city" teens since we moved here from Winchester, Va...he is much slower and more focused on school/sports. The bad thing with a teen and this area is that there is not much here for them to do...if they drive, Winchester, Keyser, Cumberland (MD) are not far and most kids go there. If you have any particular questions please feel free to email me.
Best wishes.
Sheri

thank you for all the information. I'm adding it all to my notes. Remote, we are use to coming from central Missouri. Our childrends school is very small as well. They are lucky if they have 50 children there. I believe Hardy Cty. would be as far down as we would go in WV. We like the idea of being in that ''pan handle' or a little below, there are alot of options of places to go and things to see. With me being from central PA it also wouldnt be that far to travel. I'm not sure how to email you betterngold, other than just the quick reply.
