Question: Is it right for tax payers to support the cost of rehabilitating the drug addicts, And is it better to help them recover then it is to prevent the use at a early stage, I belive a ounce a prevention is better then tons of tax payer support!!!! I belive that when offcers stop drivers for alcohol check they should also give a drug test, This would be a start!!!! Or one could look at this way, PAY NOW OR PAY LATER Last edited by x1x; 03-31-2008 at 06:48 PM. |

The work force is doing a good job of filtration...it is also giving the druggie a choice to stay with mom and pop, who may also be druggies too. If a person wants to eat, they may want to work...in the old days it went hand in hand...got lost in the shuffle of the hippy generation...make love not war...
I was in...(now this will date me a little) San Francisco in 1967/8...In the middle of Haight/Asberry as a 19/20 year old Marine...Everyone there was stoned out of their mind. I was a country bumkin from Wv and I certainly did not mind the love part of the equation. The dope on the otherhand was repulsive but I tried some 'Acupulco Gold one week...we bought a 3 lb coffee can full of it for $15.00...$5.00 a peice..It was great!!! I could hear the grass grow and talk to the crickets...If was an amazing feeling of slowness...when I came off of that high, I wanted more in the very worst way..We were in Bakersfield and couldnt get any...somebody got some LSD...he flew up into the clouds and when he came down, a dragon was trying to eat him...or so he said...we held him in his bunk for about 2 hours until he got over the fear of being eaten and came back to earth. We returned to our base and in a few weeks one of the guys had some more pot...invited me to join them for a smoke...I said...'sorry, I'll never smoke that S*** again..." One of the guys said, "Why, not?" I answered, "Because I really like it and when I have sex, I want to feel all of the sensation..." Never smoked it again...never will. Haight/Asberry? Was filled with the most beautiful, loving girls that existed on the planet and every door and every angels wings were opened to any stranger passing through...they wore flowers in their hair...duh.duh.duh...flowers everywhere.... |

As for paying to rehab addicts, I think the recidivism rate is very high (pun intended). We're simply wasting tax dollars trying to fix a person who doesn't really want to be fixed. There are plenty of private treatment centers out there, including several that are FREE to the addict (most affiliated with religion). If a person wants help it's there. We need to to make personal responsibility the #1 goal in our kids (and our own) lives. That alone will fix 90% of our societal woes. Semper Fi DK! Perhaps we'll have one for the 'Corps at the VFW ![]() ~Mark |

"The cheapest/quickest solution is the 'Chinese Model'...perhaps we could guise it under a comfortable name...like partial-life euthanasia..."-DK
I vote for retroactive abortions, once we reach the point of diminishing returns. Then use a robust 6 sigma program with a Korean Quality paradigm I learned while helping interrogate Viet Cong prisoners. take 5 on a helicopter ride and come back with four. What was the topic again? |

I've lived in Portland, Oregon and know all about the euthanisa practices of that medical community. Mum was just moved to California to get her away from it. Now she can have some peace in her last days and we will not worry about her being hurried on to the next dimension. She is English and will stay and fight to her last breath on her own..
we are talking about just that 'death with dignity...and my remarks are made to jog un-used brain cells into activity...Drug use is simply a prolonged suicide...if that is the persons choice for themselves, then let then face and take all the responsibility. Their choice should not be born by the commuinty... and the 'Chinese Model' is their solution for a drug problem began by the English and ended cheaply and quickly...it is a statement of fact...and let them resume a great culture that had been ruined by opium use. |

It's been mentioned here before, it ain't just hillbillys doing it, it's everywhere. Why? because there is a demand for drugs. We can enact more laws and spend billions more on the "War on Drugs"- it will all be for naught. As long as people want it, somebody will supply it. PERIOD. I returned in August from a 7 month stint in the Middle East. They have some of the harshest penalties on the planet for drug use- death, usually. Guess what...? There is STILL drug use. We tried to prohibit alcohol; it failed miserably and caused the rise of gang warfare. Guess we just don't learn. I think it was Einstein who said " Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result each time". BTW, if we spent 19 Billion on the Drug War last year, where did it go? Who are we paying to "fight" this war? I'm going to be retiring soon, I can team up with BluesBoy and sniff out drug labs in S.WV. I'm certain we can do this for $1 billion/yr. ![]() |

Naw, I just couldnt resist saying "Here, let me help you" in the context of physician-assisted suicide. It was a little adjective-heavy, I admit.

What I dont understand is that in a place full of little towns and country areas like West Virginia, meth labs and crack labs and the people who run them and who patronize them MUST be known to the local police. What's wrong with building a reputation for being a drug-intolerant, harsh-penalty town, or region, or state? I just dont get it.
