$150K is about the going rate for a mid-sized community college president these days. $200-250K for a smaller "state univerisity" (what used to be the teachers' colleges).

Regional universities start around $500K, and major universities are over $1M these days. The presidents of both Pitt and CMU are in the $1M neighborhood.

Little sidebar from the regional colleges...

Fairmont State University peaked this year at 8700 enrolled...1700 or them in the On-line Cirriculum...when those students were sent notices of regular campus service fees ($700 per student) 1100 of them withdrew...I wonder if this factor had anything to do with President Bradley's migration to greener pastures?

This is a great way to stifle the education process for the working and the old fogies on a limited income...my hats off to our legislature for socking everyone in the eye...

Believe this or not...but when I saw your post, Arizonabear...it triggered a comment made by someone at lunch last week...
She (Mrs. Nameless) said that Mr. MoJo was considering 'Mrs.' MoJo to succeed him...

I was laughing so hard, I asked her to repeat it and she did..saying it would be like Hillary succeeding Mr. Bill...
I was still laughing...I replied..."Debbie, how dumb do they think the voters are?"

Shelley MOORE Capito...now, that would worry me....to have that 'old Arch Moore gang back in there...but the smell of money makes a politician crazy...it's like a blood lust. I'm looking under my desk to see if any old briefcases full of cash lie there...ha ha

Getting back on topic...the selection of Mr'rs. Lane, Luck and Vest have shown a great regard for WVU. I applaud these men for coming forward and taking the helm...It tells me that our school has a bright and shining hope for the future.

How trivial, that the granting of a free degree could raise so much wrath...when you boil it all down..It was 'WHO it was for that raised all the hell...a message in there...

Now lets focus on redeeming ourselves at that Nov 28th Pitt game...
Rich Rod? Let Michigan help him grow up...just make sure his 4 million dollar check will cash...rules are rules and contracts are contracts...If Mike Garrison can collect that money, it will pay for our new WVU President..

The Post-Gazette is reporting this morning that Dr. C. Peter McGrath, former president of SUNY-Binghampton, Univ of Missouri, and the University of Minnesota, is in line to succeed Mike Garrison as WVU President. Most recently, he was the president of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges.

Full story.

Thank you, Snorpus...perhaps, Senator Byrd made a call or two...the research work projected at WVU is much more important than the cheap scandal we have been forced to endure...This will be a perfect fit...

My congratulations on everyone involved...faculty included greatly....Hoppy Kerchival should have a big story this morning at 10 am..WAJR

This is a great day for West Viriginia!

I agree it's a great selection. Excellent academic creds, plus "connected" in both the academic world and the political world (NASU-LGC is basically a lobbying group for public universities).

Wonder who was bending MoJo's ear? For the BOG, he gets a former MIT president and a member of CMU's Board, and McGrath looks ideal for WVU President. None of them appear to be part of the politico network in WV. Is he trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear?

Mr. MoJo had little to do with this...He made the invitation calls but that was it...Mr. Luck had tuned him down once before...fingers point to a Mr. Mylan Puskar...and I feel Heather will be out of a job shortly...as soon as the smoke clears a little...that was 3 million a year down the drain anyway...This fiasco had many repercussions around the world...when the research scientists began leaving and taking their grants with them...that was the real red flag...
