Hi Cadence,
I saw your post about moving to Keyser. There are jobs where you can start immediately doing phone work, fast food, etc. to get you started unless you have a skill.
In no particular order, I have some suggestions for you:
1) Get in touch with Ann Palmer at the Chamber of Commerce and ask about companies in your specialty. She may be able to steer you to the proper people. The Strawberry Festival is coming up soon, see if you can help to get yourself known. Mineral County Chamber of Commerce 1 Grand Central Park Keyser, West Virginia 26726 Phone (304) 788-2513 Fax (304) 788-3887.
2) Make a good resume and send it to suitable companies, mention that Ann Palmer suggested them in the cover letter.
3) Make frequent trips here and go to places you would like to work. Make appointments and speak to the managers/owners. Bring your resume and samples and/or pictures of your work, articles you have written, letters of reference, etc. Offer to volunteer for projects.
4) Volunteer everywhere! You can find an instant support system that can get you jobs. Potomac Valley Hospital,167 South Mineral St, Keyser, West Virginia 26726-2699, 304-788-3141 There are two pantries that give free clothing and food -Assumption Church (304) 788-2488 34 James St Keyser, WV 26726, and Faith In Action, Inc. Harold Walters, Route 4, Box 219, Keyser, WV 26726, 304-788-2929. Also, there are two nursing homes in the area. MORAN MANOR NURSING HOME, (301) 359-3000,25701 SHADY LANE S. W., WESTERNPORT, MD, 21562 and HEARTLAND OF KEYSER,(304) 788-3415, 135 SOUTHERN DRIVE, KEYSER, WV, 26726. Schools use volunteers, too, so check the Mineral County Board of Education

http://www.potomacstatecollege.edu/. Other groups are Scouts, 4-H, Future Farmers, dance, martial arts, cheerleading, sports, firefighters, rescue squads, Vo-tech, libraries.
5) Check out the Churches and get involved if you are religious. Use your skills to help in youth and outreach programs to promote yourself.
6) Not too far away are the towns of Cumberland, Lavale and Frostburg, MD. Many more job opportunities there than Keyser.
7) Last, but not least, check out the gyms and sports arenas, many nice and helpful people go to them. In Keyser - Perky’s Spa, Earth Zone, Curves, Polish Pines and Mill creek golf courses. There is a YMCA in Cumberland, MD. See the Wikipedia pages for much more info.
Good luck on your move!
