A few months ago, at a family reunion, a few relatives were talking about Nick Nolte, the actor. It was said he had mafia connections in Huntington back in the day. One relative said parts of Huntington was owned by a mafia family.

Of course there is mafia in Wv, cities like: Wheeling, Fairmont, Clarksburg, Weirton, Boomer, Charleston, Huntington if it isn't Italians it is the Irish or people from both descents. you are naive if you don't think so I am a person from the underworld but do not talk or do business with these individuals but they have seemed to hide it very very well in wv there are no movies no books these guys are old school believe that they keep a low profile and always will

Any information about Huntington WV? A guy named Bill Swartz moved his operations from Southern Ohio to Huntington around 1948 and opened up the Athletic Club. This at that point time was a bottle club/casino and offered just about anything to the patrons that frequented this place. Bill was part of the Cleveland Mafia and even served time in prison in the 1930's for killing a man. The Athletic Club operated for nearly 30 years.

Hi Wheelingwv, not sure you're still on this board, but I DO remember Charlie Maroon. He was a big name in business in the valley, and I think he owned a lot of different properties in the Bridgeport and Wheeling areas. I actually was in a house I think he owned in Bridgeport near Main and Willow a few times, is that the house you're talking about? I was very young so I do not remember it too well but I could ask my parents if they remember anything. I do not remember the name Mickey Maroon at all - is this the same house or a whole different place? If it's the same house you're talking about, maybe Charlie's nickname was Mickey?

Very intriguing to hear that name after so many years. I'd be happy to ask some of my older family members what they remember. And I'd love to know what was in all those mysterious safes, so keep us posted if you're still around! Best wishes!
