I'm confused about this as well. It was posted in the paper that the University will only use approx 13,700 square feet of space inside the mall that is vacant. The former Rex unit is almost 10,000 square feet, so why would Mountain State University pay 20+ million dollars to buy the mall and only occupy two units units of space. Mountain State also submitted plans about a proposed recreation area, residence hall, an 80,000 square foot addition, and the potential sale of a 1.47 acre out parcel. I read a couple months ago that the mall has 50,000 square feet of vacant space, why consider adding on? Residence Halls for 13,700 square feet of classrooms? What the heck? Do they have something else in mind?

This is exactly what I was wondering. I pictured that they would actually tear down the mall and rebuild, or they would build around the mall. However, I was dissapointed to see that they were building all of this (dorms, recreation park) for 15,000 sq feet. Oh well. -mmccul

I personally would find it awkward shopping there what with dorms going up and all. It just seems like it would then be more at their disposal than the rest of the Berkeley/Jeff County residents and any visitors to the area and it'd feel like we were, thereafter; "the intruders". Maybe the life-long residents wouldn't feel that way.
Are we as shoppers going to be inundated with blasting stereos/boom boxes or who knows what coming from the dorms? Not that I don't like music, but sure would like to be able to hear if my cell phone rings and what the person calling me on the phone has to say.
What about the crazies out there just going to 'play the role of a shopper' with the hopes of seeing open window shades in the women's dorm area or allow opportunity to case the dorms?

Growth is occuring along the new Route 9
Shoney's and Long John Silvers are going to open on the "east side of Route 9". The permits are unclear of their exact location, but I'm guessing it is going to be off the same exit where the proposed Sheetz is going in?

I was searching online and found on Design & Engineering's website (the company that will be constructing Logan's Roadhouse) sketches of restaurants. I don't know wether or not these sketches are for Martinsburg, but nonetheless they provide a detailed image of what the new restaurant will look like. -mmccul

Just click "Portfolio', then "Restaurants, " and then "Logan's Roadhouse".

If you notice the date on the plat it is 1979. Berkeley County is slowly modernizing and loading all the historic data online. This one you can toss out.

On a side note it appears Ledo's is open. I was at The Commons today and seen an open sign in the window and a parking lot full of cars.
