New job in VA, want to live in WV panhandle (Martinsburg: home builder, price)

Look at Rippon, Meyerstown, Kabletown or Summit Point. Gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mtns, very usable yards and generally nice folks. Your kinda out in the country, but close to Rt. 7, Berryvile, Purcellville, etc..

There are a number of communities along the Shenandoah river down there too. Go to realtor.com and enter those areas in Jefferson county, input waterfornt features and see what you get.

We sold our house in South Berkeley County in December 07. We had 4 acres, mix of woods and open, the property was bordered by two bodies of water (Opequon Creek and Threerun Creek). Neighbors were AWESOME, place was quiet and schools (like said earlier) Were perfectly fine.

It sold well under your price range...

Why in the world would anyone want to live in NoVa? And Back Creek is an awesome place to live. If I ever go back to the EP, that's exactly where I'd want to be.

Used to love sitting on the porch with my neighbor solving the worlds problems with a glass of Makers Mark and cold beer.

Okay, I'll look into those areas. Thanks. I still am trying to stay within 10-15 minutes or so of a major grocery store. I don't want to live in the sticks so far from civilization though that I only shop once a month. I don't think I'm asking for too much, just a little bit more land than the average suburban community has to offer.

so the off hours commute into ashburn from charles town should be slightly under an hour. i commute into herndon and it's approximately 45 miles each way. ashburn is slightly closer than herndon. personally, i prefer to commute along rt 340 south and rt 7 into nova. i avoid the rt 9 commute.

several developments slightly south of charles town would be locust hill, huntfield, cloverdale or eastland. i don't think that i pay alot less in taxes by living in wv; the huge difference as another poster indicated is the intial house cost.

All of the places I mentioned are within 15 minutes of a major grocer. It's not THAT far in the stix, lol.

Try looking at homes in Shannondale. Good sized lots, close to Loudoun County. Affordable and homes appear to hold their value reasonably well.

Husband is going out next week to take a tour and see exactly what terrain will suit us best in all of these areas. We like mountains, but don't really want the mountain drive if it averages 20 miles an hour because of turns. Ideally, we want to be no farther out than 15 min from any necessity, like a major grocery store and/or hospital. I think I've been given quite a few places to look and based on the home prices, I think we will be looking more at WV versus western VA. Would've been nice to be closer to work, but I think we'll get more bang for our buck being a little farther out.

One other question regarding new home builders. I see that a lot of the homes for sale in new developments are being built by the Dan Ryan company. Anyone have anything to say about this construction quality either positive or negative, since they seem to be everywhere!

Uh, I'd try the 'search' function in the West Virginia forum on Dan Ryan homes. Not the tops as far as track builders go.

I can save you some time and simply say "Don't go there"..
