I picked up a good, large, map of the whole Canaan Valley (from Blackwater to Dolly Sods) at the Tucker County CVB in Davis. It's on the same side of the street as Sirianni's, about a block closer to the Foodland.
I doubt there's a single map for the MNF, it would be more like a map set, the Forest is so large, and stretches all the way down to Pocahontas and Webster counties. MNF headquarters is in Elkins, take a look next time you're in the big city.

That's funny - I often refer people to you/your visitors center for map info.
Check out for info and hiking maps.
A free map of Dolly Sods hiking trails can be printed off. http://www.wvhighlands.org/Maps/usfs_mnf/dolly_sods.pdf

Hello all I am also in the process of moving to Davis. I have a job at the Canaan Resort. I am looking for a place to live up there. I will need at least 2 bedrooms and I have a 12 yrs old shih-tzu so must allow pets. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Moving from the Tennessee Smokies area, can not deal with all the traffic anymore. Thanks so much. Will be coming in the next 2 weeks.

Look at these places. If they don't meet your needs, call and ask what they recommend. Ski Patrollers and other winter workers rent places for the winter so I know things are available - may be a harder hunt with the dog.
Did you ask the resort for any recommendations? Also, you may want to share renting a house - they may know of some other employees looking for roomies. There are a lot of old houses in Davis that are winter rentals (maybe in Thomas also).
Canaan Village Inn Village Inn (they have apts)
Windwood Windwood Fly-In Resort
There are apartments above the following, not sure who to contact, try the store (phone numbers can be found at Shopping - Canaan Valley, West Virginia
Canaan Valley Stores
Canaan Trading Company
The Ski Barn
http://www.canaanvalley.org/West-Vir...-Shopping.html
My Grandpa's Attic
Blackwater Bikes
WV Highlands Artisans Gallery
Try the real estate agencies. They handle the cabin rentals, etc so they may also have apartments.
Some are listed here Lodging - Canaan Valley, West Virginia and there is also Blackwater Realty .
The local newspaper is the Parsons Advocate. Don't know if they have their classifieds online The Parsons Advocate - PO Box 345, Parsons, WV 26287 - 304.478.3533
If all else fails, you may want to contact the Tucker County Visitors Bureau and see if they can help 1-800-782-2775
The rates to rent a place at Black Bear are probably high but wouldn't hurt to check it out - West Virginia Resorts: Canaan Valley, Black Bear Resort, Vacation Homes and rentals, romantic family vacations getaways packages weddings meetings planning
There are also places like Deerfield and Highland Inn but I figure they would be pretty high.
A place in Harmon or Parsons would also be an option but that can be a pretty good haul to the Valley in the winter.
Hope this helps.

Newtgirl did indeed survive.
I could have sworn I responded to this a couple weeks ago... Oh well.
I'm alive n kickin'! I love it here!
Edit: there are no apartments available above Canaan Trading Co. I've got one, and Dean doesn't appear to be moving any time soon. Harman isn't bad, tho. There's a laundromat there (though I haven't been yet). From Harman to CVRSP is about 10 minutes, so it's not bad. The valley is fairly expensive, due to its resort nature.
Nicole, contact me through email (newtgirl@gmail.com) if you'd like to discuss being a newbie in the valley!

NewtGirl!
I apologize if I missed your earlier post. I was beginning to think you were lost in the Dolly Sods Wilderness.
So tell us: How has your summer been in Wild and Wonderful?
To the apartment hunter: Much info on what's available is passed "word of mouth". Talk with Pat at the Park Road Gift Shop. Ask the waitresses in Sirianni's in Davis or The Purple Fiddle in Thomas; talk with Joe, the Ranger at the Blackwater Falls Campground, or Shelley, the owner of Nanny's Deli.

Pshht, bears couldn't take me. I'm well versed in the art of kick-you-ass-fu. Although we are going camping up on the mountain tonight to look for salamanders. One of the interns going with us is from Baltimore. She's never been camping before. Never been in a sleeping bag, never peed outside, never saw a cricket (seriously), and is afraid of worms. It should be interesting.
Yesterday I made a trip into the big city with the big ol' truck... I had to go all the way to Clarksburg to pick up some artwork for the refuge. There were many wonders there... like pizza hut.
Sadly, I will be heading home in November. My term is up. And I got rejected for a job with WV DNR. Jerks. Not qualified, my ass.
I'm sad to be leaving. I feel like I've barely touched the tip of the iceberg on all of the cool things there are to do around here. But I'm happy to go home too. I miss my family, and my critters.
