Did you see.. 2 Charleston lawyers have been running ads "fishing" for people to join a class action lawsuit against WVU. The reason - they say WVU degrees may be worth less because of the Bresch situation.
Are you kidding me!!!! My son graduated from WVU today and I do not feel the Bresch "thing" harmed his reputation, value of his degree, whatever. Am I the idiot or are the lawyers? How about if we get together and sue them (the lawyers)!! |

I certainly think it has devalued any degree that comes out of the college of Business and Economics.

I just wish any WVU students in the class action would limit their grievances with individuals, and not the entire university. Long run thats only going to kill scholarship $ or raise tuition for everyone behind them. Class action lawyers want to aim for max damages so they probablly won't leave the whole university out of the equation. Frankly, should they win, it would only give credence to the notion that heather wasn't an isolated incident. Things get handled badly in court with exagerations, WVU might not ever recover.
I think WVU students deserve justice, the most appropriate version of that should be criminal charges against whomever signed off on heather, and class action (the least appropriate form of justice) be restricted the list of defendants to only those who made the decision. |

It's a touchy situation, i don't think very many WVU grads are going to jump on this suit. But i do think it has some legs, and could possibly cause some heads to roll in Morgantown.

If you want a chunk of the money...sign the list...no different than a pharmacutical case where someone is poisoned by a drug...or killed by the effects of tobacco...wait!
That money went to the states to divy up...didn't it? Individuals were left out of the agreement because of the higher costs and court clogging that would have ensued...and that was a very cheap buyout... West Virginia has the money for this...even if its a billion dollars..they have the money....call it a tuition rebate... |

DK I don't have a good feeling about that at all. The stigma, if it was marginally credible, will only amplify into something epic with voracious press coverage & lame court room antics as part of permanent public record.
Stigma to all WVU past/present/future, and to the 'litigous' WV. Watch that step, its a doozy. |

This sounds like it could possibly be a witch hunt, Or a case of one bad apple spoiling the whole barrel? In any case I believe all the guilty parties should come forth and reconcile this infraction of favoritism or wrong and set the Innocent free from harm in present and future, and let there be peace and harmony within the system!!!

West Virginia University, for my entire lifetime has been attached at the umbilical of the hacks in Charleston..If you played football or basketball, it was because you were a son or nephew of some poobah there...I'm sure other degrees have been faked for others and a good investigative team could find this information...
What is relevant is this: Since Mr. Mojo took office and stacked the Board of Governors with his hand-picked people the best and brightest of WVU's faculty and staff have beat a hasty retreat to other positions and opportunitys. I will cite only one of them, Dr. Robert D'Alissandri. We suffer because politico hacks have the power to shake up a settled situtation that has taken decades to craft and bring to a level of excellence. College faculty are an international set...they reach out to others with academic and personal relationships. Integrity is the common link that makes them achieve. WVU stands in stark competition with the twin 800 lb invisible gorillas who exist 15 miles away. Carniege/Mellon and the Penn State University both have brand new 1200 acre campuses at Uniontown and stand ready, willing and able to adjust their cirriculum to take in the greater enrollment that will come in the fall. Their Degrees carry heavy weight and if I were sending out my children to buy a degree in this day and time, I would look at them first...and with the situation of corruption at WVU, which is certainly evident...I would encourage them to attend our other colleges...CMU and Penn State. |

There's another player in Uniontown too. Westmoreland County Community College just opened a branch there. Not the prestige of CMU or PSU, but tuition for a WV resident would only be about $3500/semester, and if the student established Fayette County residency, that would drop to $1200.

I certainly hope the WVU grads learned enough there to steer clear of this sort of litigation. The value of a degree there will not be diminished unless and until they buy in to this. The ONLY people that will actually profit will be the ambulance chasing attorneys. They (lawers) have managed to chase the majority of good physicians out of West Virginia and contributed greatly to the exorbitant cost of health care. Now they want to to destroy the reputations of our universities. If this spark ignites it will spread like wildfire. WVU didn't invent this particular sin and I'm sure other institutions, nationwide, are guilty of similar misconduct. I'm thinking about investigating how G. Dubya got his degree!!??
Based upon his command of the english language it could very well be a "roll your own" degree. |
