Default Granny’s Cottage

We just purchased from a cousin a house that my great grandfather built at Whitewater, in Nicholas County, WV. I am so EXCITED!!! He built the house in 1938! It was a 4 room house, 2 bedrooms living room and a kitchen, no running water or central heat and air back then. They raised 7 boys and 1 daughter in that house. Now it has 3 bedrooms and a bath, central air and heat. We took up the carpet and underneath discovered a GEM, virgin solid red oak hardwood floors. The ceilings are “beadboard” (I think that is what it is called) thin strips of wood. The house sits or approx 1.5 acres, straight up! I kid you not!! I remember playing there as a child and loved rolling down the yard, and playing “kick the can” but I can’t imagine how they put in a garden there. I walked around in the back yard and up the hill and honestly had to walk bent over to get up the hill!

I don’t know why I am telling you all this, but I had to share!

Sounds great. Are you planning on moving there or using it as a vacation home?

It will take us some time to clean her up. I am surprised at how sound the house is, what we plan to do is all cosmetic. So we are going to "play" in it for a while, and then next year list it as a vacation rental on the VRBO site. We have one on there allready, and it works out well.

We are going to retire there one day, maybe we will live in it. The creek running in front sounds so nice when you are sitting on the front porch.
