I think it will be finished in about 7 or 8 years. Which still gives us some time to plan for the extra growth that will take place. Most of it is either in the planning/final design, or construction stages. If they'd get in gear with the area around Davis/Canaan Valley it would be open much sooner!

Here is the Corridor H website

I hope you are right. But, when I look at that map and see final plan underway and final plan not complete - it makes me wonder if it will only be 7-8 years. Are funds already set in place for all the planning and construction stages? That is the biggest thing which I see causing a delay.

The WV routes (ex. Rt. 9 and 35) which are going to be built without state funding should allow funds for the Corridor construction. It will be interesting to see how it works with large construction companies paying for the roads out of their pockets then getting reimbursed via the fees collected from tolls.

And last I read, Virginia wasn't going to spend the $$$ to upgrade the road on their side of the border, so it might not help visitors from DC as much as hoped for.

Virginia has been mad about the route...wanted it to connect at another point...it may never get done...word has it that Senator Byrd has been hospitalized again...when he goes, it will be as if someone pulled the plug on WV...no one will ever take his place.

Virginia has been pissy ever since that nasty divorce back in the 1860's and even after the settlement in the 1915 when we had to pay them $12.4 million dollars to cover the debt that Virginia had. Which we got screwed on because 85% of all investments in infrastructure occurred on the other side of the Blue Ridge Mtns, yet we had to split the debt. But if that road on Virginia's side gets traveled enough, which it will due to its easy access as a east-west route. It will be upgraded with federal money. They essentially will be forced to, it might be a bloodbath. But it will happen.

That 'nasty divorce' has been making my bedtime reading fascinating: even as late as 1991 a border dispute went to court...wow.

So the new highway going through, is that disrupting roads or traffic at all, or causing any other problems? When we lived over there in the early days of our marriage, I remember a Pennsylvanian highway (15?) that was forever under construction, so that you'd suddenly have to exit and then get back on, exit and get back on, and the road only got worse every trip you made. I learned to haaaate Pennsylvania on that road!

It makes buying a house in the area tricky... a nice new highway connecting us to great places would certainly add value. A big noisy mess that gets bogged down in politics for years (Route 100 in Maryland anyone?) would be misery.

How's Senator Byrd doing now?

What's a tray ceiling?

Hmmm...columns, arches, and resplendent amenities just aren't ..."me". I like my houses aged to perfection, warts, scars, hauntings and all.

You can sell me on Elkins, however.

The road work and construction isn't causing and pains or anything that I know of, mostly because it is all "fresh" highway, being built right through the mountains, not following a former path or roadway. There are plans to build a 4 lane bypass around the Elkins area and Corridor H ( US 33) is to be essentially a branch of that. However, with state funding it will be 20-30 years before that is ever a reality. Unless Elkins see's mega growth in the next 15-20 years I wouldn't expect to see that anytime soon.

There will be a lot of road work around the Elkins area in the coming years though to upgrade the roads to meet growing needs and to alleviate any traffic congestion as well as to make the roads safer.

The last I heard RCB was having some problems but still going strong. He met the last surviving veteran of World War I the other day for breakfast. The last surviving vet happens to live in the eastern panhandle of WV and is 107 years old.

Highway priorities shifted this week...Fairmont's Gateway connector has been given the rush order...Stalled projects are freeing up funds that were denied during the FBI Mr. Moneyhand investigation. The Gate-way connector is only a mile long...cost over $127 million as we speak...about 100 million overcost from the beginning...It's a boondogggle of a boondoggle...
Will be the super highway to the newest and biggest floating riverboat casino in West Virginia...

Fairmont is a dead town...has nothing...poor government leaders for ages...even poorer County Commission.
Was the end stop of the Capone bootleg operations of the 1930's and has always winked at corruption and crime.

Instead of looking at Fairmonts location and planning for the next 100 years of solid family oriented development, it has been decided to encapsulate the regional crime element in that city.
With the casino, will come all the dirtbags and meth heads...they will gather like flys to the garbage...
A person in law enforcement said this, "We call it 'Containment..they gravitate to the area and it's easier for us to pick them up".

These planners are wanting to bring 'little Atlantic City here...I wish we could make it possible for them to live in that filth...but alas, they have their homes in the country or along the fairways at Lakeview...but the important thing is this...their money is in the banks..

No city in West Virginia deserves this...not even Farimont...

"Wv is open for business...anything, anywhere is for sale...The Crapicola Casino should be built far out into the country...just like its done on the Indian reservations...Wv is #1 in gambling...49th and 50th in everything else...It's about the money!
