Default Obama Should Try W.Va. Strategy

Link

An excerpt:

Quote:
They are often described as having what scholars call an "oppositional culture." This is found among people who have a historic grievance against the power structure, and an ongoing sense of marginalization. Blacks, Jews and Arab Americans all have aspects of an oppositional culture. Such peoples view the political system with a suspicion that other people just don't like them. They are sometimes difficult, often fixated on symbolic slights.

Today, the Scots-Irish are among the poorest Americans. They are also among the least respected, often described as hillbillies, rednecks, trailer trash, fundamentalists. They are blamed for sexism and racism. When Obama said that such people cling to their bigotry, Bibles and guns, he said exactly what they suspected he and his supporters were saying behind their back. This has to be fixed.
Well...a guy in Michigan kinda gets it...a little....

A interesting article for one to ponder on, My only thoughts are that Obama avoided WV. during the primary because he knew he was not popular, Now I wonder should he get elected will he still avoid WV. and their problems? Just a thought...

Will depend on one fact...will RCB be alive or not...Rocky doesn't really count...the Primary avoidance was about saving the money...I predict he will lose the vote in Wv.

Obama does not influence Wv unless he and the Dems kill the coal industry...RCB made in clear last year that he was 'Big Daddy...that message went to Rockefeller and the others...Big Daddy made things clear...when he goes, we are hurting...that's the truth...RCB hates the Rockefellers all the way back to Nelson...and that's over 40 years...

In the news tonight, obama rolled up his sleeves in Quincy IL., filling sandbags with the townsfolk for an oncoming flood. Seems he's gotten the message from middle class working folks and is stepping up to the plate (if not just for a photo op). Maybe he's seen the light about that high horse? Nah, it's his handlers.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalra...pitches-i.html

Meanwhile, McCain & his wife expressed sympathy to Iowa for their floods 4 hours after obama got his press time. His handlers were napping it would seem.

I don't think america can afford to kill coal, and what's more I think they're coming to know that once and for all with this oil crisis. Meanwhile, diversifying industries in WV is best plan for long term health. Coal is finite, and mountains are the heart of this state. If Mojo authored that plan, gotta give him credit for thinking ahead even if he's been slimey at times. You've got to work with what you've got.

I think Mr. MoJo might be on his way out...and don't think My Dem's won't kill coal...they did it before, in 1984.

If the Mexicans and Canadians had electrical power generation on our borders, we would buy that electricity...

I haven't been here long enough to make an intelligent decision about Mojo. That's going to take me some time.

Niagra power station covers big swaths of grid demand regionally. Never was sure how they parsed out the border there- I believe the grid demand crosses freely in that region.
Problem with electric generation stations is that the transmission lines aren't able to deliver large distances. The solar harvest potential for an area the size of arizona was proported to be able to provide enough electric volume to keep all of america powered during the day, if not for the limitation of transmission lines.
Laymens terms, think of it like having too many fire hoses added to try to put out a fire. Rural feels it more. Friction type forces dilute the power (psi and voltage respectively). Superconductor technology amps up in a big way, we might be seeing some upgrades of power grid infrastructure that help everyone out. Nuclear needs that to happen more than anyone else to be viable. The terms and conditions of being too proximal to dense populations make it not cost effective to responsibly operate.

Coal- even if america doesn't use much coal for herself in her long term infrastructure designs, doesn't mean we can't help the trade deficit out by selling it as comodity on international market. Wonder if I can ever see the details about gasification process- maybe it will make it more cost effective to transport?? Just a hunch.
