Ed Murrow, Charles Collingwood...They left a legacy and that quest for excellence in their craft has been reduced to opinion and 5 second sound bites that are crafted to impress quickly.
News reporters in our time are plastic talking heads and clones...all say the same thing in the same way...and it's the same in other countries too...no difference, with a slight exception BBC...has some of the left over culture of their old news people...
I never waste time watching TV at all, unless its a sporting event or a presentation on Public TV or the History Channel...to much to do..and to be spoon-fed crap by some ignorant talking head just doesn't appeal...I can do better to make-up my own opinion..

DK I owe you 500 reps! R Murrow standards need to return to journalism or the truth will be lost forever. Checks and balances system is hobbled and vulnerable to fear mongers. This translates to undermining all education systems long term when facts are manipulated in historic records. Americans need to INSIST upon it, right along with fiscal responsibility in govt. The grotesque levels of misinformation running amok in blogs are enough evidence IMO. When grown adults are lead to believe that obama is a muslim cleric and we're in Iraq due to 911, we're in serious trouble as a nation.
I didn't bother hooking up cable TV to the house. Internet connection keeps me busy enough, and I can filter out the real news better this way. Reuters, bloomberg, and BBC I think are the truly fair and balanced. Rabbit ears still work for local news so far... this will change in near future. About the only program I truly miss is alton brown's good eats because I dearly need those cooking lessons.
Dirty jobs w/mike rowe, american chopper, how it's made series, snarky anthony bourdaine no reservations, history/TLC/discovery/bravo/travel I like but I can live without too.

I can't imagine getting more pissed off over any election than this one. I don't even have to say it, everyone on here knows what I'm thinking. I voted for Hillary, therefore I'm racist. That is some excellent logic, as Georgia mentioned, the black lady in the video who voted for Obama used the term “rednecks” ( sounds a little racist to me) and told about how prejudice WV is.
Well, my advice to her is, save the money she appears to be bumming on the street, get some dentures, get a bus ticket, and get the hell out of WV. Good bye and so long. She appeared to fit the redneck stereotype more than anyone in my "white" family does. Her only reason for voting for him was "because we need a change" and he "will give us a better world" When you know what was going through her mind, "because he's black" I'll say it! Call me racist, call me whatever you want. I voted for Hillary because I like her stances on issues and I felt that she would be the best candidate for the position. Not because she is white. I will also guarantee you that there were an equal amount of black people who voted for Obama because he was black, as there were an equal amount of white people who voted for whites. If thinking this makes me racist, I suggest you check your nearest Websters.

Yes, and can we say IRONIC the media fed people crapioca, then media mock someone not voting for obama based on 'hussien'?
At what point is the media willing to criticize their own garbage in their industry? I'd love to see them police each other more, and get back to truth telling as bread and butter staple. No ammount of clever entertainment can forgive a lie that brings us to unjust war. Shame on faux news. Shame!

Pretty lame. I'd love to take one of those T-shirt luvin dudes and drop them off in the bronx or south central LA. See how loud and proud they are then.
On the bright side, at least the racists are showing their butt for all the world to see. They think the world is laughing with them, not at them. Should someone let them in on the fact that THEY are the joke, or are they too far gone to get it?

If WV wants to maintain it's beauty and lifestyle you should change your highway sign to "Welcome to West Virginia, Ok! You can leave now!"
I had to laugh at Harbor's comment. South Central and The Bronx.
Have you been to Atlanta lately? Makes those locations look like Eden.

The first and last time I was in atlanta I was treated worse there than any place I've traveled in my life. This includes 3rd world where women are second class citizens & options to sell them off like cattle is written into bylaw. I've been around the world and atlanta has the dubious distinction of being the worst.
I was there for a yoga conference which coincided with the world series baseball game between yanks and whatever georgia sox. I'm so clueless about baseball its laughable, but because I had NY plates I was followed around by cops. Somehow they decided to look the other way while my car was broken into and my luggage stolen. For all I knew they were the ones who did it. Then 911 police refused to respond for over an hour for the request for a police report. I waited that long, then left. I guess crime doesn't exist if you don't write it down.
Because I was a white woman traveling alone gas attendants gave themselves permission to ridicule. Because I said hello to a black man on the street, some black woman started screaming something about 'white she-devil' as if someone isn't a racist would know what she meant. Because I was white on martin luther king jr blvd I was literally refused service at a diner. The racial tensions were palpable in all directions no matter where I went inside that loop. I HATE atlanta, and wouldn't be caught dead there for any amount of money.
I loved decatur, and savannah was a much kinder place. People were people near the border of SC on my trip down. But atlanta? Evil pours through the streets. I don't talk about it because I try my best not to say anything if I haven't nice things to say. Sad to say, there wasn't anything nice for me to say other than I'm glad I could hole myself up at the conference and avoid being near those people for one minute more than I had to endure. I can't help but wonder not if, but when, the next riot will happen there. It's sickening. They need their own planet. Nuff said?
