Wv Drive-In Movie Theaters
Several of you have mentioned Drive-in Movie Theaters...A real estate relic of the past...I know of two in this area, The Grafton Drive-In, near the new Walmart and the Ellis Drive-In at Shinnston...What others exist? Those days of a six-pack and your best girl...popcorn at intermission...The Pink Panther and the sub-marine races in the back seat...cleaned those cars with Q-tips...on Friday the trunk was filled with 6/7 guys for $2.00 a car load...Saturday was for Emmy-Lou and the 'rites of passage...Those exactly WERE the DAYS...the days of our youth...Come to fly like a bird on the wings of the wind...

The Jungle Drive-In (it used to be the Jungle Open Air) on Highway 2 in Parkersburg. I found this number for them: (304) 464-4063. It's still owned by the original family that opened the place in '52.
I think the last time I went (about 4 years ago) it was $6/head for the double-feature, kids under 12 or 13 got in free.

Here in the northern panhandle, we travel across the river to the Winter drive-in in Wintersville Ohio. They have four screens which sometimes makes choosing difficult.

My mom put me and sis in the trunk so we could afford the drive in way back when robert redford was a young man. I think that would be considered child abuse now.
I'll be sure to point that out to her next time she tries to guilt me into something.

Two that are gone now are the Works Drive-In, north of New Martinsville, and the Buckeye Drive-In, in Buckeye, Pocahontas County.
The screen for the Buckeye is still standing.

We lost the Bel-Aire in Weirton, The Ohio Valley in Follansbee, the Airport in Short Creek (on the Brooke-Ohio county line), the one in Wellsburg and one in Chester. Can't remember which was the Blue Moon... The screen for the Airport D-I is still partially standing. If you know where to look, you can see it from Rt. 2.
It's just sad that so many are gone. Such fun memories.

my friend's Aunt put 4 of us in the trunk of her bonnieville in the last 60's for a trip to the drive in!! My Aunts (5 of them) would have NEVER done anything like that, her Aunt was so cool I thought!
going to a drive in on a date was a NO-NO per my Mom, lord knows we could do the same thing (what-ever it was) at the dead end road over looking the highway. I think we would have been safer at the drive in, at least the movie would have entertained us!!
