HELP....Moving To WV in 1 Week!
Hello!
I am moving to WV to be near my fiance who is currently at the Hazelton prison camp. I am 52 yr old female, disabled, and am looking for a place to rent somewhere between Hazelton and Morgantown. I have a Section 8 voucher and have to find someplace that accepts them. I am moving on July 3rd, and the place I was going to rent suddenly became unavailable. I'm not familiar with the area, I've only been down twice to visit.
I don't even know how to start or where to look. I'd rather not be right in Morgantown, I can do without the traffic and noise. Does anyone have any advice? I'm running out of time! While I am disabled, I'm not in a wheelchair, so I don't need any special accomedations.
HELP.........PLEASE!

Try googling city-data.com type in masonville, wv You can follow arrows around in neighboring towns until you find a zip code that works for you. Look on the left hand side of the pages and realtor links come up.
bruceton mills looks too small a town to find a rental in, and masonville is on the outskirts of morgantown.
classified ads for dominion newspaper
047 - Apartments, Unfurnished - Classifieds from The Dominion Post (broken link)
good luck

I used to live in Morgantown and I am familiar with the area. It sounds to me like you're going to want to live in PRESTON COUNTY (Morgantown is located in Monongalia County). There are several small towns located within Preston County, as it is a large county (Masontown, Kingwood, Bruceton Mills, Albright, etc.). These towns are very rural when compared to Morgantown, so finding a rental can be daunting, but it can be done. There is a local newspaper (the Preston County Journal), but I have never read it and I don't believe it has a website. I would strongly suggest looking in the Bruceton Mills area, as it is somewhat developed and there are a few apartment "complexes" and mobile home parks nearby. Your best bet is going to be to rent a house with some land, but unfortunately, these types of places aren't widely advertised. For the most past, you can only find them by driving by a reading a handmade sign. Being that Morgantown is so close, Preston County rentals are very often advertised in the Morgantown newspaper ( The Dominion Post -- The Dominion Post Electronic Edition). I would start with The Dominion Post and go from there. Good luck and welcome to Wset Virginia!

Your best bet would be Kingwood...about 20 minutes away...that prison camp was built in the middle of no-where...the prison staff live in Morgantown and commute each day...
too cold and wintery for a lot of development...but its coming slowly...should eventually have its own Walmart and a huge complex for section-8 housing just like the other prison areas of the country..

Yeah I had trouble-- I guess its very rural in preston-- when I googled I couldn't find a newspaper that covered the county. Bruceton mills is so proximal to Pa and morgantown that I think she'll have no problem once she gets zip code mastery happening.
Local ads depend on an area too- I've lived in places where THE main place to communicate in a town was a post office bulletin board or the bar across the street. Another town it was the laundramat & supermarket bulletin board. Charleston area the gazette has smartie ads in classified, but lots of lesser rentals were just as you described- a sign on the property itself.

>>>Section 8 voucher<<<
Gee, I fear that most residence managements have long waiting list for the Section 8 holders.

Thanks for the replys!
Well, y'all gave me alot of useful information. I found a very sweet lady in Kingwood, which after looking at the area map, is exactly where I'd like to land. Preston county, again advised by y'all. Anyway, this lady deals with Hud/section 8 all the time, and has several opportunities. What I'm looking at now is a very small 3 bedroom mobile home ( one of you suggested that!) that has been redone, new roof, and even has some land with it, so I can plant flowers! This sounds perfect for me, so keep your fingers crossed! I really didn't want to be in an apartment complex, I'd much rather deal with people than companies. I've already been transferred from Michigan to West Virginia regarding my Section8, so all the red tape is completed.
So far, everyone I've spoken with down there has been so very friendly, including everyone here who has responded, and I can't wait to get down there! My fiance is really looking forward to me getting there too. So, HOPEFULLY it looks like I won't be living in a van down by the river LOL! Keep the comments coming! I can use the support and advice.
Again, I so much appreciate all the information and care. Thanks to you all! I will keep you posted! Can you tell I'm excited?!
