Default Looking for relocation information

We're looking for information regarding housing in the Hurricane, Huntington, Charleston, and Eleanor areas. We're preferably looking for a home to rent (at least a 2 bedroom).

We've searched all over the internet, but it seems rental information is hard to come by.

Any other additional information regarding the areas is also welcome.

Thanks!

Miller

Here are a couple of websites that may be useful. The first is the Huntington newspaper and the second is for the large homes and rental guides that the local real estate companies put out. Hopefully you can find something in these links. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Tim Bailey is the resident expert on this area of which you are inquiring...I would suggest that you look at some of his previous posts...they are excellent in every way...

I am considering relocating to the Huntington area. I am looking for a home in an area with many young professionals/families. I have read many post and looked into the links provided esp. those by tbailey1138. I just have a few questions.

1. The blocks around Ritter Park seem to be nice neighborhoods. Are they conducive to young prof. and is the area a safe part of town?

2. My target price range is up to 125K, and there are many options I have explored, but I have found little information regarding specific neighborhoods. Any suggestions that are more specific to my interest (YP, family atmosphere, low crime, etc.)?

3. Are the train tracks that dissect downtown frequently used? I would assume they are based upon coal and such.

Thank you for your postings. They are extremely helpful now that I am looking to relocate after graduate school. I am trying to do some research before I start to look with a Realtor.

I did find the links useful, however they only offer apartments. We're looking for houses to rent. I've searched the forum, but found no links to such websites.

Thank you (again)

Miller

Here are some in the Charleston newspaper - start search at http://classifieds.cnpapers.com/

Our papers are the Charleston Gazette and the Daily mail.

You may also try Realty companies in the area. If they don't handle them they may know where to send you (or they may have a client with a house that isn't selling that would be willing to rent it). West Virginia Association of REALTORSĀ®

There are a couple Houses for Sale guides you can pick up for free around Charleston. Don't remember the names or if they have a site online. May/may not have houses for rent in them.

The areas around Ritter Park fit all of your requirements. There are a lot of young professionals and young families in the neighborhood. This is the area where a lot of graduate students at Marshall try to settle as well. The area is very safe and it is common to still see kids walking to school all by themselves. Being close to the park also has the advantages that come with that type of living and there are plans for a larger system of bike trails to connect into the park. The closer you can be to the park, the happier you will likely be. Being in that area also allows you to be VERY close to a lot of things such as downtown, grocery stores, hospital and quick access to the interstate.

Seeing as how Huntington was set up by a railroad man, it is still heavily reliant on the rail system. CSX is still very big here and is actually getting ready to expand. Huntington also has the busiest passenger rail system in WV as well. The good thing though is that the rail road is set up to be here without causing much of a daily disruption. The streets that cross the tracks actually go under them and there are only a couple of places that the tracks cross certain avenues. You don't really notice the trains too much in all honesty. Hope this helps and let me know if you need anything else.
Tim
