Default Thrift Shopping in WV

Does anybody here go to thrift shops in WV? I live in PA, but want to make a trip to WV to do some thrift shopping. I'm willing to go anywhere in WV that has good thrift shops, so could anybody give me some ideas of where the best ones (or at least good ones) are?
thank you very much

I'm not a thrift shop shopper - don't have the patience.
Do you mean stores like Marshall's etc? I don't know if we have any that you don't have in Pa. How about Gabriel Brothers Gabriel Brothers

In Charleston there is also a Goodwill store, YWCA on 1114 Quarrier St., Salvation Army store at 207 Wyoming St, and Mountain Mission (not sure where the store is).
There is also one on the West Side of Charleston on 7th Avenue (between Rt. 62 and 5th Avenue but don't know the name of it).
Also see United Way of Central WV : Program Information Sheet for Thrift Shops - The Salvation Army

We also have 4-5 consignment shops. There is one beside the Rite-Aid in CrossLanes (outside of Charleston). For others, do a search of the web.

Halfway between Charleston and Huntington, the town of Milton has a huge permanent (all year) flea market.

Bottom line - guess we have several in the Charleston area. Hunt around the web for more details.

If you're looking for furniture, try 2nd Seating on Elizabeth St. in Charleston.

Finally had a chance to read the Sunday Gazette-Mail from july 13, 2008. On the front page of the Business section there's an article titled "Sale & Resale Thrift stores do well in tight times". Tried to check the archives to give you a link to the article but could not find one. If you want to hunt, some key words are John Roberts, Mountain Mission, and Second Seating, and YWCA's Past and Present.

A place where you donate your old stuff you no longer want and someone else comes and buys it.
Charity groups such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army have stores and use the profits made to help people. Many churches also have them -- a church in our local area used the funds to buy a bus to help transport elderly and handicapped to church.

The Salvation Army has one in Morgantown on University that caters to the WVU student crowd...Perhaps where they are in Wv..a Thrift Store exists...I know Goodwill is here too..perhaps a Google would get you there..

Check out the Hope Chest in downtown Welch near the southern-most tip of the state. The address is 145 McDowell Street, open Monday - Saturday 1pm to 5pm. The vast majority of things in the store are donated leftovers from church yard sales, private donations or missionaries in other parts of the country.

A few items are purchased for sale in the store such as diapers from small to extra large and are sold in packs of 30 for $3 which is what the parent ministry pays for them. All clothes - regardless of size is $1. That's everything from a newborn's first outfit to a big man's denim jeans to a floor-length XXXL mumu and everything between. There is a boutique that sells a few finer things - new purses, collector items and such. If you are trying to quit smoking, they carry nicorette gum for $10 a box. You'll find housewares, toiletries, bar soap, condoms, makeup, jewelry, shoes, blankets, pots and pans. And there are boxes that are packed by the ministry called food boxes which contain between $7 - $10 worth of non-perishable food items plus a $2 coupon toward any clothing item in the store - all for $5. It's just about the best thing going in Welch right now.

The parent organization is The Hands of Hope Ministry. There is another Hope Chest on Main Street in Iager.

I would even recommend doing so research on the internet for online shopping. sometimes youll find some great websites that offer killer deals that are even better than thrift shopping, plus they are brand new clothes that have never been worn!!!!!!!!
