I'm sure they cut salaries and put up all those "yucky" trailer parks, used car dealers, and bars (sure there aren't any strip clubs?) just as soon as they heard you'd moved to West Virginia. And how have house prices held up in NoVa during the recession?

Unhappy one mans trash is another mans treasure!

My dads parents raised me in Harrison County. I remember well my Nanny saying she hated W V. She was also raised there dirtpoor and married and moved to AKron Ohio and worked at St.Thomas Hospital for 20 years or so as a cook. The house they owned had secret rooms you could only get to by climbing out a second story window and easing around the corner to another window that went into a room that didnt have a door. They thought it was part of the underground railroad move. Anyway, she was comparing wv to ohio like the lady who commutes to work in va. I can see where someone wouldnt like the inconvience of it all and I can also see where the hills themselves grow on ya. Sorry to hear , David, that true mountain privacy is diminishing. I can remember when i got out of the Marines in 77 and went up on the hill behind our house. The gas co had dozed it off and put in a rideaway. I was so mad I almost went to the workers and told them how I felt but I knew they would think...man what a nutcase....so as usual, I just kept it to myself and mourned in private. Who was it said...it was the best of times...it was the worst of times? I think that applies here in this era we are experiencing.
