Wv has had its share and more...I've seen it. So have other states and ethnic groups...

Personally. I hope we can keep the crud of America from coming here...let them have Califorina, Florida and Texas for starters...that fence along the Mexican Border...I hope we can afford one in a few years...
OTOH: Arizona is a lost cause for the illegals.............we are chasing them out using all sorts of ingenous legal methods.

In fact: several pro illegal posters admitted they are scared of Arizona for the above reasons

As for California: when that state wakes up--------the fury against the illegals will be sudden and severe. Just a growing premonition on my part here.

Ever hear the term, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth?" It applies here. That gift horse is the fact that people are not flocking to WV. It's not permanent, of course, but I am enjoying it while it lasts.

Young people leave for better opportunity. WV was big on coal mining and for one reason or the other, the mines lost their luster. It's hard work. It's about as dirty a job as there is no room for slackers.

Many of the occupations we have today are light years away from the occupations of the past generations. Fast food, entertainment, shopping malls and technology simply didn't exist to entice high school grads away from the places they were born and raised - and away from the back-breaking coal mining ways. The options are so vastly different that small towns and non-tourist based states like WV really can't compete.

You and I know what WV has to offer and that it's a great place to vacation to get away from the rat race, but please, let's keep it down. I don't personally want everyone running in and discovering it - the way I did a little over 2 years ago. And that was after never having stepped foot in the state for more than half a century of life and not knowing anyone in WV. All it took was a house with a really "take-my-breath-away" price. It had to be a misprint. I mean, a 2-story, wood-frame house with full attic, full basement, shed, carport and 2 screened porches on a paved road with city water and sewer for $18,500 and property taxes under $200 a year. Folks, I mean to tell ya I was so boggled by that price tag, I bought two or them and have been here ever since. And when I look around, I see the beauty that I might never have seen had it not been for that house for sale listed on the internet that I saw only a week before I was scheduled for a vacation.

But let's not clue everyone in on it. We should just keep it to ourselves. It might turn ugly if it follows the same path Kissimmee took.

I strongly doubt that W Va has much to fear just yet. There is still a lot of real estate between it and Florida that would need to be filled first. Besides: people like myself who do not do well in a '4 season' climate need to stay where it is warm year round.

Don57 is on a distinguished road
Comming from a Delaware native and have lived here all of my 51 years, I must say that I truely enjoy when me and the wife go to Berkley springs and spend a week with our "Hillbilly" daughter and our 5 Grandkids. We call her hillbilly in jest since she and her husband and kids moved there @5 years ago. I love the mountain air and being able to see the stars in the sky at night. To us, it's quite the ambiance. I would'nt mind living there in my retirement years.
