Elkins, Davis, Thomas, Parsons, Canaan Valley -- I am only familiar with those areas. I live in Canaan Valley, which is about 8 miles from the town of Davis, and about 30 miles from Elkins. Elkins has a Walmart and many other stores. Canaan doesn't have a grocery store but we have a Canaan General Store for basic needs -- like if you forget milk, lol.

I used to live in NJ, about 40 minutes east of Philadelphia, and 45 minutes north of Atlantic City. I lived a few years in NY and I am not cut out for that life. I am a country girl at heart. My husband and I actually enjoy shows like "Little House on the Prairie." Call it corny, but we're into a simple life with a low crime rate and friendly people, a place we can raise our children.

I definitely recommend visiting different areas. I visited 3 times total before I made the final decision. Once you visit you'll never wanna go back to NY!

Elkins is a very nice town, but it is growing...it has lost a lot of the charm that it had 20 years ago....look at Buckhannon as well...it is Mayberryish with a small touch of sophistication. Ms. Pie

Default What about the Mercer County area?

I' m in California but I think I much prefer a more rural lifestyle with open land but city life that I can drive too.

So it this a good place or not so great?

I would like a cute little house maybe on an acre or more lakes, trees, rivers. I own a house here in California so I know I can get a good price for my money.

I moved to Charleston from years in CT and NJ. I love it here. Minimal driving, no traffic, lower prices and taxes, nature, airport in 15min, friendly people etc. And you don't have to learn Spanish to work here
