Nope, you're wrong on that one - Maine has the least non white population.

That makes me sooooo iritated -- Obama on TV stating that he is African American; playing the race card; etc. I fully understand why he does it - to get the black vote. Also understand that back in the day, if you had one drop of black blood you were concerned black.
Or maybe to point out how far black people have come that they can now even be president. And he's going to win so get used to the idea. "It's the economy." The last person who said that was a Democrat and won.

This whole is Obama black or white issue is really not one. Technically, he's biracial and like most people who are biracial identifies with his black roots because when you look at them, you see a black person not a white person.

From my experiences in WV, racism seems to be worse in the Valley , then anywhere else especially the rural areas. reason being, one they think they are from the deep south, you see more rebel flags then american. There still is a lack of diversity , not much of a black middle class. The reason I feel the rest of the state is more progressive toward race is because from clarksburg up they are more influenced by northern cultures being located in the Pittsburgh metro area, and many of the southern coal towns have black populations that have the history of working in the mines along the side of the whites there. I can't claim to know anything about the eastern panhandle, I have never even been there so no comment. In conclusion West Virginians are good people , if your are nice they will look past skin color. Even in the Valley ,it is not as bad as certain areas , of the deep south.
I agree that it certainly appears people in the most Northern part of WV identify more with the North. Even though the history of WV unites it with the North, many many people identify with the South. I see this from slightly south of the Northern Panhandle (not sure where the "line" is but people I knew from Upshur County identified with the South).

But here is where I greatly disagree - I do not agree that "Identifying with the South" is wholly correlated to "racism".

People I know identify with the Southern way of life in many respects such as the music, the friendly and genteel nature of the South, the food, religion, the values, etc. Many young people I know identify with the modern southern way of life - Nascar races, country music, ATV's, hunting, the comedy - more of the Jeff Foxworthy style of the South. Remember the car the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard? Let's see - the car played Dixie, was named General Lee, and had a confederate flag on it. I don't remember racism being in the show. Kids loved watching the reruns of that show.

When I moved into my neighborhood, a couple neighbors, not knowing I was from NE Ohio, remarked on how unfriendly Northerns are - they identified with the friendly neighborly way of the South.

I'm not saying racism doesn't exist. It does. But identifying with the South does not directly mean you identify with racism. Flying the Confederate flag does not directly mean you are racist and you have it on your porch because you are a racist.

A few years ago, a Southern clothing manufacturer made a line of clothes and it's logo was the Southern flag. Kids wanted them because the flag represented them in what they like to do and they identified with the south for reasons listed above. The clothing was banned from the schools because it was "politically incorrect".

Like I said, shouldn't we be trying to unite the nation rather than continue with separation?

You should read some of the outright BS coming from some of my conservative friends regarding his religion (not race) and how he (Obama) needs to be thwarted to avoid a Muslim takeover of our country. Not only is totally false, but the message is so incredibly ironic that I was speechless. This is stuff that is actively being tossed around by fundamental groups.

I'll post it when I get home. It's scary. What in the hell happened to my party.. Hijacked by extremists and zealots with no regard for the constitution.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats have any regard for the Constitution. Heck, they don't even read the bills they sign, what makes you think they'd read the document they swore to support? Laughable to think anyone but Ron Paul considers the document worthy of attention.

What I read is by far the most outward form of discrimination I've ever seen distributed with such ferocity. It's not just one or two people I'm hearing it from, but from close friends, their neighbors, even a co-worker here. All are totally convinced that he's running a Muslim agenda. My co-worker links it to his name, as if to state "Of course he is a Muslim, his name is foreign". I said to her so my first name is Hebrew (biblical) so that makes me Jewish? Blank stare is what I get or "That's different".

So now it seems perfectly acceptable to squash another religion in the name of your religion in a country that was founded on freedom of religion.

It's simply mind boggling and follows no sense of reason. It's flat out contrary to the founding principles of this nation AND Christianity yet they fail to see it.

And I'm a practicing Christian and a registered Republican!!!

Bummer!!!
Where did they get their theory? Figure somewhere they are being taught something that has a whole big theory formed based on his name. (Surely it's not's just the name but rather a whole theory with a lot of "facts"?? on his name,
Of course, I'm sure his dad's and his middle name adds fuel to the fire: Barack Hussein Obama
According to Wiki Barack Obama, Sr. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia the dad was a Kenyan senior governmental economist; was raised as a Muslim, but was an atheist by the time he moved to the US.
Interesting reading on Wiki: says dad was married at 18 in a tribal ceremony, at 23 left pregnant wife and an infant behind to come to US as a student, married fellow student and they had Barack, left her 2 years later to go to Harvard then they divorced. Dad must have been a smart man but sounds like his life was pretty tragic toward the end.

A friend recently told me that he truly believes that Bush plotted and was behind 9/11. He said there are even movies made about it. (M. Moore perhaps?)

I was so stunned that he believed this that I didn't even register his explanation of the "why" Bush would do this.

I'm a practicing thorn in the side of God . . and frankly, I know God will miss me when I'm gone, because he won't have anyone else intelligent to talk to.

There is wisdom in the prevention of allowing Islamic Law (Sharia) to have a foothold in government, or operate alongside it, and you only have to look at the stupidity of England and their political correctness monstrosity of laws to see where it goes.
* Can't say anything bad about Islam even if it's the truth.
* Islamic courts operating outside of English law (although technically, we do this in America with Indian tribal law).

I've read the Pakastini Constitution, and blasphemy (man's law) is a crime punishable by death.

Allah was a lie, and Muhammad was a false prophet.

I will kill any Muslim who attempts to impose that religion of fear on me. I will kill any Muslim who attempts to put me under that umbrella of this religion of tyranny. **** Islam! And **** the politically correct who don't have clue about this religion. Islam is The Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile!

People might not have the right words to articulate their feelings and thoughts about Islam, but they know it's evil. Islam works because of fear, because of brainwashing, because of organized crime. Anybody that says otherwise is selling something.
