I COMPLETELY agree with you!!! I don't live in WV, but I grew up below the Mason-Dixon line and now (unfortunately, unhappily) live WAY up north in "Moralityless Massachusetts" (looking to SOON move away) and I get sick and tired of the comments made by elitist jerks that surround me.
Just my two cents. I love WV!!! I am a black male that lived 3 years in Ashland KY. I enjoyed riding my bicycle with my white girl friend in and around Pullman Square. We used to ride from Ritter Park to the McDonald's on Hal Greer also. The only people that honestly gave us a look were older white couples and young black females. I live in Charlotte now (my home town) and we get just as few looks here as we did in the Huntington area. Now on the Kentucky side of the river things were much different. I won't go back to Ashland even if my life depended on it!!! One of the reasons why WV is thought to be so backwards is because of ex-West Virginians. Metro Charlotte probably has more West Virginians than Huntington and Charleston combined. Most of them are white, and they tell people that WV is stupid, racist, poor, and mostly a state of inbreds. When I tell them that I lived near WV for 3 years, they say "oh my God, how did you survive?". I tell them quite well and they are shocked. Again, these are ex-West Virginians advertising their home state this way. The main reason why I left the WV area was that I missed living in a large town. Other than that, I could have stayed forever!!! Here are some videos of Charlotte's growing urban side I would like to share with some of you all www.youtube.com/urbancharlotte. In return, I would love to see what is going on in Charleston and Huntington. Some Pullman Square photos would be great!!! Some of my fondest and last memories of my deceased mother was us eating at Max and Erma's at Pullman. She ordered the fish and chips. I'll never forget that day nor will I ever forget WV!!!
Good post. I'm glad that you enjoyed Huntington so much. Perhaps you would have stayed in the area a little longer if you had been on the right side of the river. Hopefully you can come back someday. Here are some pics just incase you missed them.

Thanks Tim!!! My mother and I rode that free shuttle bus in front of Pullman. I can't even name how many movies I've watched at that cinema. Just to the left of the movies, there is an ice cream place I used to love!!! I think it was a Cold Stone. Just across from it is a Game Stop I believe. I blew a lot of money at that place. To the right of the movies was a book store that my wife loved. There was also a Starbucks that we frequented. Pullman plus the arena is an awesome area. By comparison, Charlotte is still building it's Pullman like complex. It is called the Epicentre. You can see it in some of my video links I posted a page or two ago. Pullman is almost the same size as Epicentre in square footage. I believe Pullman is about 200,000 and Epicentre is 250,000. Huntington is WAY ahead of some much larger cities when it comes to downtown development and entertainment!!!
I'm an African American and I was just in West Virginia this last weekend. Depending where I stopped I got a lot of stares. I did not get ant disrespect but the places had very low Black populations. However while looking at the land I saw a swastika spray painted on a tree. I'm from Washington, DC and know that that kind of thing happens here too. The thing that I do like about DC is that there are people of all races and nationalities. What I like about Wast Virginia is the beautiful mountains and low population. I'm pretty much fed up with city live though for other reasons. As far as Obama is concerned I did not vote for him either. You have to remember that Presidents are selected and not elected. He has blood line to European aristocracy and a member of the Council on Foreign relations and all the members of his Cabinet are members of that organization, The Bilderbergs Group or the Trilateral commission. The powers that be are closing down America. From the very beginning the powers that be have always driven a wedge between Native Americans, Blacks, Poor Whites and others that would readily unite against the aristocracy. While we bicker amongst ourselves the steal the coffers dry!!! I'm moving to West Virginia. The land is beautiful, inexpensive and me and mine can be alone in the mountains growing our own food and providing for ourselves. These are just a few things to check out. Since Obama lost West Virgina by a landslide and I have heard of racist acts in West Virginia, How is it up there?
Are Blacks accepted?
Is it diverse?

Martinsburg/Berkeley County is by far probably the most diverse in the state due to it's close proximity to DC. To put it into perspective, there are 26 spoken languages at Martinsburg High School, I kid you not!!!In portions of the state, such as Martinsburg and I imagine Charleston, and Morgantown, you will find much higher diversity than the rest of the state. -mmccul
