Just back from a long weekend on the mountain. WOW, what an absolutely perfect time to be in WV!! I took many pictures of the mountain sides and all their colors, but the camera just can't capture it like the eye can. If anyone is wondering when the best time for fall colors is, I'd say "RIGHT NOW!".

I met up with another CD member while I was there... turns out that not all online personalities are axe-weilding psycopaths. Nope, just a regular guy.

Maybe I'll host a WV-CD pig roast next fall... That way you all can visit the best part of WV.

~Mark

RIGHT NOW is right. Today looks to be the last day of Indian Summer, then rain moving in tomorrow (Wednesday), along with falling temps. If the rain is at all hard, it'll knock the leaves off the trees.

Up here in Yinzer country, the last week or so has been about the peak. Some trees still haven't changed, but I'd say 2/3 of them have. Drove down to California PA (about 25 miles north of Morgantown) on Sunday, and the scenery was near perfect.

Accuweather has a page (http://www.accuweather.com/promo-ad.asp?page=fallfoliage&dir=aw - broken link) up that shows current foliage conditions around the country.

In WV, it shows the Tucker-Randolph-Pocahontas region as being at its best right now, and the rest of the state as showing "Some" color.

In the East and Midwest, only upper Minnesota and northern New England are shown as being "Past Peak".

Default 2012 Leaf Peak for Durbin, WV

We are wanting to take a trip to Durbin WV and ride the Durbin Rocket for the leaf peak. I just read the first week in Oct to Oct 12th. Can anyone give input to help us out?

It can vary year by year (last year the leaves peaked very early in the mountains), but in an average year that timeframe should be about right for peak color at Durbin.
