I-66 should, but does not yet connect to Corridor H.

"April-June 2015 Status: The Federal Highway Administration approved the Amended Record of Decision on the 6.8-mile section of Corridor H in Hardy County connecting Wardensville to the Virginia state line May 16, 2003.
Final design of this segment through Hardy County is anticipated to begin in 2020. Construction tentatively is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Corridor H Route - Elkins to Kerens

Strasburg to Wardensville is actually a pretty good drive via Rt.55.
All of the wandering around from Moorefield on is the problem.
Unfortunately some 18 wheelers now try to go Moorefield to Elkins without knowing how to drive in the mountains.

Not only a wise tactical idea... a necessary improvement to the system. The Balto/DC virtually direct link to Morgantown via I-68 tying in on a diagonal route to Moundsville and on to I-470 on the Ohio Side would do a lot to not only improve efficiency and traffic flow, it would provide the first major improvement for highway travel in the most populated sectors surrounding West Virginia. Our Interstates have not been upgraded in 50+ years. It is way past time for this to happen, and it provides the best opportunity to get oil and gas industrial development in our state, along with improvements to WV-2.

The US 35 developments basically serve an auto assembly plant that employs 1,500 people, and it is being done with a much greater percentage of state funding than would be involved with an Interstate expansion, and the potential is much greater long term for I-68. It is also greater for WV-2 improvements from Chester to Huntington.

Default New Life for Downtown Wheeling

People are finally starting to invest in Wheeling's downtown area. For more than a century, right up until about 1983, Wheeling had the most vibrant, prosperous, and thriving downtown area in West Virginia. Then all those mills closed and the 30,000 jobs went with them. Ohio County itself started making somewhat of an economic comeback with The Highlands development, but the city itself failed to gather any momentum from that. Oil and gas money has breathed some life back into the area, and now downtown is finally starting to get some attention. This revamping of a former clothing store for a Jamboree Museum and associated activities is great news for Downtown Wheeling, and hopefully the first of many great developments there.

Default Wheeling, WV leading in GDP Growth

This is a nice surprise for the Wheeling-Steubenville area. I am from Pittsburgh originally and now in Columbus, but always rooted for the Ohio valley to turn it around. One of the things I miss about Pittsburgh is the half hour to 45 min drive to Wheeling and Weirton areas. I love the casinos, cafes and deejays ribs!

Default Redevelopment in weirton

What is going on with all the redevelopment in weirton? I hear that there will be a three springs business park and a Georgia company doing redevelopment near the old football stadium I believe? I also have noticed that the old Walmart building is empty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My family and I moved from Pittsburgh to weirton a few months ago. Strange I know the rent is so much cheaper down here and a typical Pittsburgh rent price. You can rent a house cheaper down here.

I hope this is true! My wife and I moved from Pittsburgh to Columbus back in March. Before leaving the Burgh we noticed some growth and redevelopment going on in the northern West Virginia panhandle, Steubenville Ohio area.

I tell everybody the best part about living in Pittsburgh was the proximity of the West Virginia panhandle nearby. Deejays ribs in Weirton is a great place for a bite to eat. Going to the small gambling cafes and mountaineer casino was a great time for the money spent. When we come back to visit family we make a point to stop by and say hello. IMO if you want to live in the Pittsburgh area the wheeling, Weirton and Steubenville area is the best. Close to Pittsburgh, but much cheaper and some fun entertainment going on there.

Not to mention the wheeling casino, wheeling nailers hockey team(pens minor league team), the ye olde alpha and wheeling brewing company in nearby wheeling.
