West Virginia University a Cult School?
I will agree with that...it draws the rebellious...the over achievers...those not wanting the Pitt, Ohio State or staid CMU mentality..somehow it reeks with a yearning for greatness...the subconcious wish to be the 'Mountaineer and fire the squirrel rifle and do those push-ups at every football game...To BE free somhow in the complete educational pursuit and to drink like he## on the weekends and raze the others...those lessor, from the lessor 'free schools who just 'wanna be EER's...Why is WVU a Cult School to you?

haha i think you started this because of our discussion. its unique in its own kind and really has no competition elsewhere in the state. when they are born and raised on the mountaineer way, when people drive 2-4 hours weekly to see their eers', when partying is the most fun you can have on a cold winter night, when people say hello and want a drink without being snobby or jerks, when they tell ya to drink wild turkey to stay warm if you dont have a jacket....all of that goes into one very proud school that they all love so much. Its a cult for sure, they dont want any outside Pitt people, they dont want to hear the stories of 2 missed field goals, they want VA tech to die, and Michigan and richrod to burn. WVU is in its own league, i know its not huge like Ohio state, but you can never compare the two. people banwagon ohio state, but true WVU fans LOVE and will ALWAYS love WVU.

America loves an underdog, and WVU fits the bill (as they see it).
Always being regarded as the poor kid on the block. National media searching for divisive comments on the election, pictures of shacks up some holler with the washing machine on the porch. A casting call looking for "weird looking inbreds, like from a West Virginia hollow."
Getting shafted by RichRod, then coming back under an interim coach for a decisive victory. One of the coolest logo designs out there. Hard to get to, off the beaten path, if you go there you must really want to get there. The Mountaineer with his musket. A pop song as an anthem.
It's too easy to root for the Ohio States and Penn States of the world.

No doubt. Living in Ohio, my neighborhood is a sea of Scarlet and Gray. You should see the looks of the people who walk past my house come football season and see me proudly hanging my flag every game day. Maybe this is why we haven't made many friends since we've moved here...

After this years 2008/09 football season, you will need a 'BIGGER flag...it's a 'penis envy thing...those Ohioans will never get over it anyway...'Mountaineers, should keep their place and that type of thing...not intrude into the Ohio State football space...fact is, WVU will intrude a lot into everyones football space this year...those kids and coaches have an agenda to prove...let me say a few words on this while I'm at it.
Pat White/ Coach Stu and many others were deeply offended at 'rich rod's language and abuse on and off the field. Many are Christian's and are taking this opportunity to show what the other side can do. They have prayer and fellowship. Many families out in the football world want that for their kids and some of the top prospects are looking at WVU's program to deliver that with the scholarships...It's making a profound change in the program...bring better character with the recruits...not having to take so many of the problem kids, as has been the casse in the past. Word of mouth between the kids is carrying through the net-work...and Coach Stu is meaning it when he talks about character and building good people better in that football atmosphere. rich rod never considered the fact of the inner spiritual discipline of an individual...his attitude was based only on talent and relentless attack...Stewart has added another dimension to the equation...I think its old school...like 'winning one for the gipper....and it will show this year in the intensity of the WVU game.
Friends? Two of my best friends are Buckeye fanatics...We visit in the summer and after the season is over...keeps the peace and the friendship...but it's deeper than football...we have other bonds...
Your neighborhood? Get an Ohio State flag and put it on the porch too...will bring them out to talk about it..over pie and coffee. nice post, meandmypeas3.
