Default Work and play in Fairmont?

Hello to all!

Im moving to Fairmont in the very near future, and was wondering how the employment is in that area. Im in the retail field, so am pretty open to anything. What is the roundabout pay rate around there, if anyone knows?
Thanks to the crazy inflated pricing in Baltimore, the profit from selling mi casa here will pay off my WV one, so bills should be pretty minimum...I wont need much, but was wondering what I should plan on as far as income.

Also, am I correct in assuming since it's so close to Morgantown, that there will be some fun things to do around there? I'm 27, so I dont need clubs and stuff, but am hoping to find some good shopping and fun places to go out and eat...will I have luck in the Fairmont/Morgantown area?

Default Morgantown will be your best bet..

Hi! I'm originally from Weston, went to college in Fairmont, and just recently graduated college in Pittsburgh, so I feel I'm an expert on Central WV . Fairmont is an ok "big" small town. It is a college town, but there aren't a lot of bars, or, really, restaurants for that matter. I urge you to try Muriale's, which is off the South Fairmont exit, right by the river. DELICIOUS Italian food, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Other than that, I think you'll have the most luck employment-wise, in Morgantown or Bridgeport/Clarksburg. That is where you will find the malls, restaurants, etc.

I grew up in Fairmont and my family is still there. I now live in Houston, TX. Houston is vastly different than Fairmont. I did not realize how depressed the area was until I got away from it and went back to visit.

Everytime I travel "home" to WV, I am so saddened to see what the Fairmont area has become. It is so depressing. I have such fond memories of fun times in Fairmont but now there is nothing there....except, Wal-Mart, Muriales (which is wonderful Italian cuisine), and FSU. There is not even a convenient shopping mall unless you drive to Bridgeport or Morgantwon (and those malls do not offer alot.) I would not recommend living in Fairmont but your opinion may be different after visiting the area. Morgantown is nice and seems to be growing quickly. The cost of living is higher in Morgantown but would be worth it to have options for dining, shopping, entertainment. Best wishes in your new endeavor. My recommendation is to visit the Fairmont area first before making a committment. And, do not have high expectations for options of things to do and you will be fine. If you are looking for several options for shopping, entertainment, and dining you will be disappointed.

I am sad to write such a negative review of my hometown but I would want someone to give me an honest assessment if I were in your position. best wishes

Well you are in baltimore and I am in annapolis. Its funny we are both living in almost the same are to almost the same area!

like the others said, Fairmont has a few things and is cheaper for housing. Morgantown and clarksburg/bridgeport have more business and are more expensive.

I live in Clarksburg, recently relocted from Beckley. From my few experiences visiting Fairmont, it seems that there really isn't much being offered in Marion County.. If you want to go shopping, your best bet is probably Clarksburg
