There is a shortage of workers in the construction industry and looks like in the coal industry also. Read below for info on workers needed in coal and others.
People whine about no jobs in WV. I think the issue is that there are a lot of unfulfilled positions in WV however they involve hard work, often long hours, physical work, etc. These are high paying jobs, well, I guess they are considered high paying if you consider 50+K a year high paying, which I do.
"But I have a college education" -- often employers in fields you would not consider are looking for college educated people. In the heavy construction field, many employers are looking for employees with a college degree to work as superintendents, etc. because they need people who can communicate with their customers, etc.
My parents and many people my age went to work in the plants, etc. - it was physical but high paying work. So many grads today want a physically cushy job and whine that there are no jobs available. I say "Buckle up you whimp and make America proud. Where is the rough and tough spirit of our forefathers which made America a powerhouse?".

It held a jobs fair in Boone County, seeking engineers, maintenance supervisors, production foremen, electricians, mine operators, roof bolt operators, shuttle car operators, scoop operators, beltmen, fire bosses and move crews for underground operations.
These are skilled occupations that pay well and have great benefits. The average pay for a mine employee last year was $60,000 - not including overtime."
