To rent a nice 3 bedroom, full basement, formal living room, den and two car garage in McDowell County, could anyone give me an idea of what the rent would be or the price of purchasing a house in that area of the beautiful mountains. I'm looking for a second home to enjoy the ATV trail. Thanks!

McDowell County housing is that bad, huh? I suppose it would be cheaper and better to buy land and build you a cabin!!! Beautiful country. What a shame.

There is little in the way of what you are requesting. First and foremost, to be in the mountains, you must consider that there isn't many "flats". That means flat areas big enough to put a house on without sliding down the mountain into the holler.
They do exist however. Try checking out the Bluefield newspaper. It's the biggest in the area and I believe their classifieds are online. 100k would get you a decent house in the mountains. You might consider Mercer county though. Not too far from the trail... maybe 30 miles at most, I don't remember. Mercer county has more flats. Good luck! |

If you are looking for ATV trails do the Logan/ Boone County area...better houses, close to charleston and not the poorest county in the state like McDowell. These counties include the cities of Logan, Madison, and Chapmanville. All with close access to the trails and have their own communities as well with shops and restaurants. I really suggest the Madison area...more than one ATV access and only 15-20 min from Charleston...if you move to McDowell or Mercer you might regret it bc nothing to do and also very poverty stricken.

Hi, I actually have 2 acres of land in Wyoming County that is close to the trails. It has timber and a spring. Great Cabin site. However, it is not level all over. It is in the Hanover area. You could take a look of you like. Good luck!
