I'm not gay, but I have heard that Huntington is the best town for gays. I have heard others say that too. Lots of gay folks there.

Coming from the real world to Raindolph county, your words ring true.
Ya gotta admit, this thread is an entertaining read during our scattered rain bursts.

elkins does not, nor did it ever have any city qualities. Decent dining is scarce, normal non-walmart shopping is a joke, DIY project materials are rarely available, one car dealer, 2 if pontiac is countable. Can't speak about schools or jobs, doesn't apply.
Elkins is what its always been, 3 to 4 decades behind normal civilization. But the most of the natives seem okay with that from conversations i've had with friends. No change is a good thing for some.
Now if you're an outdoorsy type, this area is fantastic! I loved visiting 3-4 times a year. Visiting and living here are 2 different experiences.
But overall, it's an okay place to live if given a time frame for major adjustments.

Why would we want all the crap (normal civilization) of a big city?
I can be in Pittsburgh in about 90 minutes...stay at a great hotel...take in a ball game...have a great steak on Liberty Ave...browse a big name store...and be home in paradise the next afternoon...
I've been to a lot of places, lived in several nice places and want my home to stay the way it is...(safe)
My work schedule is adjusted to conform to my life...if I had to manage my time and distance as those do in New York City or DC...I would call it a Rat Race...
Bringing that here would be insanity...Wv is not for everyone...we hope to keep it that way...please visit and tell those from Dweebland that it's getting better in Wv...we have TV cable in some parts of the state and the people can see Jerry Springer and Nancy Pelosi in the outside world.

I think David's on target here. Having lived in the NYC area for 16 years, the big cities really do provide the definition of rat race and distorted time/space relationships. It's kind of amazing to live in a hugely populated area and have to drive 40 minutes one direction to get to a physician's appointment and a half hour the other to shop for groceries. The nice thing about West Virginia towns is that is not the case anywhere in the State, and the nice thing about Northcentral, Northern Panhandle, and Eastern Panhandle towns is the same is true plus you have the added advantage of being close enough to major metro areas that you can indulge in the advantages they offer when you want to do so without having to be part of their rat race most of the time. And, David's drive to the 'Burgh is about to become even less time consuming.
I do think that as development continues we will begin to see some of the problems associated with it, but overall I like where Northcentral is situated long term. If the State steps to the plate and does its part, continued development in the region will be a major benefit for the State as a whole
in terms of added tax base and spin off development, as well as added clout in Washington.

I vote for Keyser being the best city. Just because John Kruk lives there and he was a Philly!
lol
Oh, P.S. Why do so many WV threads become so.... gay? LOL, seriously though, it's either a discussion about which is better, morgantown or huntington, or being gay suddenly pops up... Sounds like we need MORE people from these areas posting besides the standard four folks that constantly argue.

It has been quite a long time about 10 years or so, and has probably grown alot. It was the little town of Romney WV a sheets gas station, a library, city hall, 2 cops, and that was it! My wife and I used to have the use of a hunting cabin there and wish we still had it. Small and everyone was nice.
