When MoJo runs for President he will shift the Democrats back to normal..conservative center...NRA, PRO-LIFE and all the goodies.

He will also shift a lot of Repubs over...with the demise of the Regan Repub Party, someone will take it back...

My bet is on the MoJo...and so personable...As Senator MoJo, he will run for Pres...darling of the crowd because of the work done in Wv...New Energy Plan will put him in the spotlight...JFK re-incarnate...with much of the same baggage that old Jack had...

I don't see how someone can change their values as they get older. How can I be pro choice now, and suddenly be pro life one day 30 years from now? I'm pretty open to change, which is the anti of the conservative agenda so I don't really see how time can change those things. Guns, I don't hunt - I love animals way too much, instead of the NRA I'm feeling Peta, which I know will not change because my whole family is very animal oriented. Guns can be fun to shoot, I've went target shooting on our land before. It is fun, but that can be done in controlled settings in my opinion. I also know plenty of older liberals.

Don't be fooled DK. Just because you may have become more conservative as you've aged and it appears the majority around you are conservative as well. They very well may, but WV is a very small state population wise. Partly due to those younger liberals with degrees heading for the borders once they graduate because of West Virginia's outdated right wing policies .

Of all of my friends that have recently graduated from Marshall in the past year or so, I can think of only a couple that have stayed in the area to go to grad school. Several have left for California, a couple to Florida, many to Columbus, Ohio. I really do the people who are fanatically right are systematically destroying WV. They may think there preserving our state, but they're really just shutting it off completely and it will slowly die right along with those older conservatives.

See I don't have a huge problem with conservatives (generally, aside from the obvious gay issues) but I feel like conservatives and liberals counter each other out for the better. Liberals pushing forward, sometimes too fast and conservatives keeping us at a steady speed and not being erratic. But WV has the problem of not having that counter balance. We are essentially going off in the oblivion right there along with a few of the other overwhelmingly conservative states.

I think my mom has become more liberal actually over the years. She's 52 and I gaurantee you she is more liberal now than she was when she younger. I think a lot of it has to do with your family and who you interact with, etc

When will he run for senator? He's got a few baby steps to go. Doesn't he? JFK re-incarnate? Dang, wouldn't that be great!

Wait till you start making decent $$ and see how much you pay in taxes! Especially since we really do not have a say in where our money goes. Changes your attitude on a lot of things.

Values don't really change but outlook on many things do.

Experience will show you that quite often, the "liberals" sound good but when you really look at it, you realize that they are actually taking away personal freedoms from select groups of people or even all of us.

Open-minded and tolerant? Sure, as long as you are thinking their way and believe what they believe.

Social progress - take a close look at many issues and see who/how the "social progress" is benefiting -- it's often certainly not benefiting the majority.

Just one example - During the election, did you hear the number of self-proclaimed liberals on TV and radio who claimed that if Obama lost it would be because people are prejudice. I find those statement to certainly NOT be open-minded or tolerant -- prejudice was NOT a factor in how I voted, there were several issues which were a factor and race had nothing to do with it.

I was extremely liberal in my youth but as I have gotten older I have seen many things which have changed my attitude on many things. I think I have only met one true liberal, he had his views but was open to the views of others and did not condemn them for their thoughts. Next time you are talking with a liberal, step outside the conversation and really examine what the person is saying.

I understand that.. The government takes out more money from my dad's paychecks in taxes in a given year than most people in WV make in one year. But it has to happen, otherwise we wouldn't have a government to run our country. He voted Democrat because he knows without taxes we would not have the services needed for our economy, well being, safety, etc.

Could we use that money? Of course we could, but we all have to contribute to our country. I've never understood the mentality of wanting everything for nothing... which is what a lot of people want. They want the benefits, etc without paying taxes. Where were does that money come from?!

With that said, I firmly believe we should keep our govt. spending in check, but we as citizens don't really have much control over congress or the president really do we? All the govt. does is scare us into thinking the bad guys- whether it be the commies, the charlies, or the now ever popular terrorists are out to get us and we need to spend trillions of dollars on defense, and for awesome wars which we know we could never possibly win
