Naive and stupid are not the same. Stupid doesn't get better, naivety usually does. The fact that you contribute to the forum at your age would indicate that you're not stupid. I think most of the older posters forget that we too were once young and idealistic. Then it became OUR money that was being pilfered...LOL.

Why do you doubt the innovation capabilities of the US to develop technologies to reduce CO2?

Because there's no money to be made by the government. Or at least they haven't figured out how to make it profitable to tax/ regulate / render ineffective eco energy.

State and Federal government are looking for the $$, not the eco solution.

well bluenoter you may be right. I've turned off the tv to avoid negative ads and somehow mccain supporters at the local radio station have decided to mock anything obama does, play up what a hero mccain is, and ignore actual news (events in Iraq got suppressed). RNC sponsored ads. Pretty grotesque twisting of reality, but then they identified themselves as a FOX network radio station. The wolf station- click. McCain reps called me 5 times and meant to sell me based on irrational hatred of Obama? Click.

The neighbors I've got and friends voting for McCain all seem to have something in common-- they habitually repeat propaganda as if fact. Mccain supporters quote misinformation from right wing media outlets (I know this because I gave them equal time with my ear). They could not answer the simplest question on merits only- why vote for McCain? They felt compelled to personally attack Obama, and take it one step further to attack Obama supporters. No criticism of Obama's actual plans on merit ever gets discussed by any of them, and as we've become accustomed to these past 8yrs, if you're republican you can do no wrong because it's not about individuals, but a 'brand name' policy that never actually materializes. No smaller govt, no lesser taxes, no consumer protection, no safer ports or immigration reform that at least deals with terrorists. More has been less and irony of ironies it's still anyone else's fault but their own.

Early on, two of our WV bloggers whom I consider to be very thoughtful and intelligent were asked why point blank twice, and both avoided the question and ironically challenged another blogger to justify their opinions in this thread. Perhaps they'd rather not endure my scrutiny? It was a sincere question- it's not my purpose to change anyones mind but rather add information to the kitty. I think this thread is a pretty good representation of the all negative all the time trend.

On the other hand those neighbors & friends voting for Obama are not attacking McCain personally. They articulate real reasons why they want him in office- clean up economic problems by restoring regulatory function of gov't, end Iraq, discourage trade deficit hurting american small biz, pro constitution, health care plan that's original (McCains plan is received more like a rehash of the discontinued medical savings plan), and meaningful changes because nothing ever trickled down.

The exceptions to this trend: one woman (native to NC) wanted to vote for obama but would feel guilty if he were assassinated. She said she'd be embarrassed to call herself a southerner if it happened. One man said he was voting McCain strictly because he's a vet, and vets have to stick together (despite McCain's voting record on vet funding). Another man is voting Obama because he's disgusted with republicans altogether. I personally have no confidence in republican approach toward the economy (I judge them together because they're voting uniformly defending the same plan), and their inability to admit mistakes candidly is a habit Bush started w/ the approval rating to reflect it. I have no appreciation for misrepresentations, outright lies, fear mongering and character smears coming from McCain camp during debates which pretty much cinched the deal. As a woman I find Palin to be demeaning to woman kind and wholly unqualified to do much more than spend $1,000 per day dressing herself while ingratiating herself on struggling middle class. Elections are not supposed to be WWWF matches but the most unsavory elements of our country sure do push it that way every time. Al-Qaeda & Chenney endorses McCain. Colin Powell and Warren Buffet endorses Obama. These are the things not mentioned in right wing media dominating public opinion for over 10 yrs.

One thing's for sure, Americans will earn the representative they deserve shortly. Nobody can save anyone from themselves. Too bad republicans couldn't get Jesse Ventura to run for them. Much more seriously committed to preserving the constitution.

Georgia they're comparing Obama to JFK because they both faced unsurmountable odds, and because they're offering a plan that includes most people (not just mortgage companies and CEO's). Until JFK no catholic had ever held office. White anglo saxon protestant males dominated politics exclusively. Obama is not JFK, McCain is not the great white hope. The next scandal getting labeled as a whatever-'gate' is the product of mass media sensationalism. All I know is I want my country back.

Big al I prefer my politics sober. They're screwy enough as is.

snorp a handy way to avoid negative press unemployment is to start a war elsewhere. Once our troops are home, lets see what the sustainable mathematics truly are in light of dwarfed mfg, no holds barred trade deficits, and credit card national deficit. Keep on keeping on is a deeper hole financially that will only guarantee higher taxes for all from liberal fiscal policies started by people calling themselves republican. They aren't republican. Despite the rhetoric of socialism Obama's plan works out to be more fiscally conservative than McCains.

DK coal & oil boys threw their support to Obama. I think they know where their vested interests reside. Don't care about economy elsewhere? Wall street crisis knocked out the investors for coal gasification project. Shall we pass the hat in churches to cough up 800 million from constituents & have it run by WV state gov't? Your neighbors are more connected to you than you think, and WV cannot afford to have an isolationist policy in the 21st century if she means to reap the benefits of modernity (something younger folks like mtneerheart & steelersfan complain bitterly about). You cannot achieve both policies without severe contradictions.

Hinton- Those vested in energy sector have been actively encouraged through incentives to diversify to eco investments (like windmills). DK had pointed that out in another thread and I verified it. As always, the same plan approved by congress implied as grass roots investing got usurped by conglomerations. Similar to the monies put out for preserving family farms getting used mostly (80%) by agri biz. Write the terms and conditions as a legislator, you can decide who it favors because only lawyers can jump through the hoops.
I just got a sample ballot today and libertarian candidate isn't listed. There's a space for write in, however, and I think if 'gottaherdon' gets elected for anything the pollsters might not know about citydata to inform him.

Democrat: Obama's grandma confirms Kenyan birth
Phil Berg Update: Affidavits attesting to Obama being born in Kenya, exhibits and audio of Sarah Obama interview « Mountain Sage

Attorney Berg's case challenging Obama's Constiutionality to run for President dismissed by the judge in Pennsylvania for "lack of standing" is now before the U.S. Supreme Court, so we'll see what happens. It's possible the U.S. Supreme Court might actually stop the election tomorrow if Obama does not produce evidence he is Constitutionally qualified to be on the ballot. And they should . .

In another court case, attorney Andy Martin is pursuing the Hawaii birth certificate . . as noted, the document exists, but what it is, Hawaii has not indicated. Nor will they discuss it.

For chrissake, I had to produce a birth certificate to get a drivers license in West Virginia. This is what the Democratic Party is defending? This snake oil salesman?

Journalism does not exist in this country.

Arrest Barrack Hussein Obama (a/k/a Barry Dunham, Barry Soetoro, etc.) as an illegal alien and deport him!

Don't believe for a minute he can hear anything GHO. This lawsuit, more appropriately described as a nuisance complaint, wasn't brought up two years ago when he announced his intentions to run. The guy strategically waited until hillary conceded the primary so that it would time out with election cycle news. If she could knock him out on technicality she would have, and to allude to anything otherwise is beyond the pale irrational.

Sure, he just proved what I was saying all along but how long before they're self aware when they're instructed to be preoccupied looking for someone else to blame? Party used to be better than that years ago and sure wish statesmanship would make a come back.

GraniteStater: It's the cost of the technology to capture the co2...We have clean coal burning now...to freeze the co2 and then bury it in the ground is ridiculous...

with the world disemination of our forests...we might need another source of co2 enhancement for the air we breathe...co2 capture is a way of chasing rainbows and spending a lot of money in the process.

How many industries are we to shut down in this country anyway? Farming, Steel, Auto and
now coal Production...

and these political leaders are only elected hacks...they are not experts in any field except Talk...
the financial fiasco last month should have proved that...Have a problem? Through money at it...If it gets worse...throw more!
