What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Bovine and porcine methane produces more problems than coal does, and if anyone means to make changes they'd better know what's sustainable for the long haul. Means they're obliged to have science firmly in their hands and innovative applications that are cost effective. Looks like gov't expecting co2 sequestering had better make sure it's cost effective or face the ire of local governments being burdened with another version of unfunded mandate.

Spending money isn't wrong when it's investing in future infrastructure. Buying a pig in a poke like ethanol... that was the last republican plan. Forget parties for a change and see the plans on their merit only. There's a place for all at the economic table. How we go about things decides how successful they'll be long term.

West Virginia was a Democrat state for most of my life. My first vote was for John Kennedy in 1960 & I remember it being such a big deal that he was Catholic that he made the statement weeks before the election "If I can carry W.Va., I will win" Of course he did.
Although I do not live in W.Va. now, I do remember the governors office would swap out often from Dem to GOP & then back tro Dem, but my home county, Boone, always was Democrat

Frank I think WV is a reflection of how their issues remain largely the same but the parties themselves have changed too much and have offered few solutions in hand for WV. I doubt highly WV can be considered a dem state wholesale any longer. If there were a substantial third party I think most would really fall under that category. I'm not native to WV but I love my new home and the people here. I hear everywhere I go the want for a more significant economic force in WV and I think by any measure coal can only take this state so far. The rest can only be answered by diversity. I hope you voted today, no matter who you voted for, because America needs to pull together more starting with everyday folks like you and me.

Don't know if you caught my earlier response but... WV is still majority registered Democrat.
Registered voters - 56.21% are Democrat, 29.38% are Republican (rest are other). http://www.wvsos.org/elections/histo...OfficialVR.pdf

Will be interesting to see the results.
Cecil Roberts was all out supporting Obama so figure the miners will too.

Vec but what's on paper is vastly different from what reality is here. You're a registered dem not voting dem for instance (or did I mistake your party affiliation?). I had to register as a dem to vote in primaries, but my true party affiliation isn't an option in WV. Hinton is libertarian- not an option in WV. Big al was voting for someone other than mccain in primary, and most other republican nominees could be considered more akin to third party candidate philosophy. Ron Paul is more like a libertarian for instance. "R" used to be a dem, but wants to join independence party. That party isn't here yet. I think WV vote can't be assumed to go dem because the true candidate representing the attitudes of folks here doesn't really exist. That's what I was getting at.

No arguement from me. Was simply pointing out we are mostly registered Dems.

Yep, I'm a Dem voting for McCain. Looked at my ballot after voting today and realized I flip-flop between parties -- went for person not party. Guess I am a Dem who Dems hate and Republicans love.

Polls closed 6 minutes ago. Ntl news is saying McCain won WV.

Later: Now 1 Chas area TV station is showing McCain ahead and another is showing Obama ahead in WV.
Whoever wins - Let it all be good for WV and the US.
Just give me my TV back - elections are on all the stations and my heart just can't take it.

Did see a couple guys who barely looked old enough to vote in line in front of me today. Normally don't see that and was glad. Hmmm. knowing I had an entirely different outlook on life, politics, etc. when I was young, not so sure I'm thrilled about the youth turning out to vote but glad to see them taking an interest.

No it's happening so much in all of america vec. Even with myself. The 2 party dominance and departure from their root foundation definitions are to blame IMO. People need to say who they are and just say that instead of marketing themselves otherwise which only makes people resentful. DINO's RINO's seem to need their own party but it just doesn't exist yet.

election results so far... Local and National Election Results - Election Center 2008 - Elections & Politics from CNN.com They're saying 52% obama and 43% mccain but I think it's too soon to tell.

Good night to blow up some popped corn in the microwave and play some DVD's. My wishes for what's best for WV and USA join yours vec. No matter what, it's out of our hands now. Breathe a sigh of relief for that at least.

To those folks who did right and voted against that vile thing, salute.

Have a clear conscious watching the quick demise of this country into fascism. Wipe your hands of them, and let them have their Fuehrer. If you're going to stay in this country, when the militia comes door to door collecting your guns, you'll know that sound is Hell's bells.

Best wishes.
