Interesting to note what the news on TV, net, and papers has focused on today --
The campaign stategies which got Obama elected.
Today, day after the election, I've read more about what great marketers he had and the stratagies they used than anything about Obama or his issues (not coming right out and saying what great salesmen were on his team but that is what it boils down to).
Hmmm, since the majority of TV News Stations were so biased for Obama, are they now, in a round-about-way, laughing at us and letting us know how we are puppets and they can pull our strings?

Just look at how tax pay is distributed now. Not much different than what Obama said to be honest, except that he is trying to get the middle class, that seems to be pretty much gone now.

Big al was voting for someone other than mccain in primary, and most other republican nominees could be considered more akin to third party candidate philosophy. Ron Paul is more like a libertarian for instance. "R" used to be a dem, but wants to join independence party. That party isn't here yet. I think WV vote can't be assumed to go dem because the true candidate representing the attitudes of folks here doesn't really exist. That's what I was getting at.

That is much the way it is here as far a running for office. Most are RINO's
They have to run as Republican to get any votes but when you talk to most one on one, they are like me, mostly vote for the person.
In Mississippi you can cross over on Primaries. We had a Sheriff in office for 24 years & he had to switch to Republican in the early 90s to get re-elected
I know him personally & he like many other office holders are Democrat at heart

I don't think your interpretation is quite right, there. This isn't about getting a free mortgage for a second home, this is about stopping banks who mislead people so they could turn a quick buck. Don't get me wrong, the dumbasses who wanted a McMansion but worked for Taco Bell don't deserve to get bailed out by any stretch of the imagination, but the people who were deliberately lead into thinking that they could afford a mortgage that they could not should not be held 100% accountable. Somewhat accountable, sure, but the banks who participated in dirty business should suffer for what they've done.
Unfortunately that's not what has happened. And the bailout was a bipartisan effort.
There is only one political party in our nation, that is the Corporate party. There are, however, two factions, democrat and republican, but they all serve the same master, and that's corporate interests.

AS it was explained to me, the US banks pushed a lot of junk Mortgage Paper...so much they got scared of the load and pedaled it to the foreign banks...warnings were avoided until the bubble burst..
happened with some of LBJ's Texas friends in the 70's...only junk bonds floated that time...the difference being the mortgages carry deed to items...house/improvements and the land they sit on...someone will use this 'Bail Out Money to buy these at a great discount and make a serious fortune..
All paid for by a public not giving a da^n....did you see how fast Congress jumped on this...can't seem to do anything good or bad and FIXED the FIX in less than 3 weeks...
Somehow runs a parallel to the crafted gasoline problem...nobody is talking about the Iraq war...it's over and our troops will not need fuel now...that's the current non-demand item...futures....who made that money...providing the fuel for the war...do we know them?

WVA is a republican state because
Rural lady,
I am orginally from Mannington West Virginia and I must say that I was very disappointed in my home state. You have to contribute the way they vote to the good ole boy mentality. I know from personal experience that many people dislike, distrust and hate black people. It's a fact, its pathetic but its true. Many people had campaign signs for the other Democrats but not for Obama.
You have to admit Pennsylvania has a few cities that are much larger than Charleston and Huntington. I live in Northern Virginia and am surrounded by a diverse group of people. The larger the metropolitican area, the larger the vote for Obama. Large cities attract intelligent, hardworking, progressive people. I teach in Prince William County and I must say that this county's majority voted for Obama. Prince William is very conservative.
West Virginia is not diverse, the majority of the population is white so there is a great mistrust of minorities. There is also a strong neo-republican christian following of the party. These individuals are the extreme, some do believe that there were indeed weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They also believe that Bush was a great president, it doesn't matter that this man along with his cronies have done more to destroy this beautiful country of ours. Thank goodness we now have a man in office that is for the middle class. No, I don't mean not taxing the middle class but helping the people get jobs and helping individuals get back on their feet.
Why in the world people would want another 4 years of McBush is beyond me. McCain did a horrible job of picking his VP, the most ignorant person he could have picked. I used to teach government and I sent my old government textbook to her so she would know what to say and do when she runs for office again. As a Democrat I do hope that the Republicans pick her. She illustrates what the Republicans stand for: hate mongering, name calling, bullying......
I hope I have answered your question.

Sue: I hope as a teacher of youth you are more open minded in the class room...most of what you just said in your blog was the regular opinionated 'left wing diatribe I've heard for the past 6 months...
You are a Virginian now...stay there, on their side of the fence looking down at us..
Let us keep our identity...as surviving realists...as keepers of a Constitution...not needing any change...those framers...they prayed a lot when they were putting it together, felt that 'Divine Providence put those ideas into their heads about freedom and equality...did your government book mention that? That's possibly the reason its lasted this long...
If we need change then let it come...I'm ready with seeds for the spring gardens, canned food...and heat for the winter...just like so many of us here...Change? Let it come...I also have shells for my rifles...as I intend to eat the food I grow...a protection of property...while I have it..

Well put DK. I was having the same thoughts as I read Surfs' post.
...So I guess color is the only thing that makes us diverse? If WV is "mostly white", therefore not diverese, is a ghetto not diverse because it's predominantly black? Perhaps you'll move there to make it more so? I'm sure they'd love to have you in the 'hood. After all racism is a white trait, you'd have no problem...
If there were any questions as to why our education system is the train wreck that it is, it's because we have liberal, big government, mouth-breathers "teaching" your kids. As math and science scores rank us at the bottom of developed countries of the world, what exactly are they "teaching"?
