I've never heard the WV symphony play but I've heard that they are good. I have , however, been to see the Huntington symphony and they put on a wonderful show. Add in the fact that most of their performances are in the beautiful Keith Albee Performing Arts Center and that makes it even better. I have yet to make it to a Christmas Show but hopefully that will change this year! Great to hear from you again Genesee!
Tim

God I've heard them probably 6-7 times. Every year in elementary school and middle school they would play on the campus of D&E for a few days and they would bus all of the kids to see them during those days. At the time I was bored out of my mind, I might find it more enlightening now though

Well make sure to check out the HSO. They do some great stuff and I only wish we could make it more often than we do. Make sure to check out one of the shows in the Keith too. I grew up watching movies there but that place still amazes me everytime I walk in there! Here's a great pic for those who have never seen it.

Those old theaters, when properly restored, really take you back to a different age. They did the same with the Benedum and Byham theaters in Pittsburgh, the Opera House in Marlinton was saved from demolition, and Hinton has a movie theater that's pure 1950s.

There is also the Metropolitan in Morgantown and the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling, although the latter is in need of repair. I agree the the Keith Albee is a lovely theater.

Sigh. Can you feel me? Talk about wasting life...
These guys have no concept of what it is like living near a large city. You won't find that any place in West Virginia. Except for Morgantown, which needs an infusion of State funding for infrastructure to keep up with demand (and it can take you a half hour to get from one side of town to the other during rush hour), there is not a town in the State that you can't easily cross within 20 minutes. I live in the NYC area, and I have commuted as much as an hour 20 minutes each direction to work. Some folks go over two hours each way.

The whole State is a nice place to live, but there really isn't that much difference temperature wise from one place to another... 5 or 6 degrees difference from the most northern part to the most southern part. The southern part is a little warmer in winter, but the northern part is much more comfortable in summer because the humidity is also lower.

In all honesty, there is good arts in all areas of the State, but it is just a little better overall in Morgantown, and you don't have to go to Pittsburgh to get major metro quality... they bring it to you from Pittsburgh there. You are correct in your assessment that the southern part of the state has a more southern feel, but the northern part is not really northern in character as in Northeast. It is somewhat of a crossover between southern and midwestern in character, a little closer to the midwestern. Predominant ethnic origins are (1) German, (2) Irish, (3) English, and (4) Italian with a good amount of all of those mixed together. There is even a fairly large contingent of Cherokee descendants in the county east of Morgantown.

Also, the character of Morgantown is somewhat cosmpolitan because it is the location of the State's doctoral level University. There are many students there from all over the world. If you are looking for a purely southern feel, then Beckley to Charleston is probably for you.

Again, this is YOUR OPINION, and based on my RECENT experience, I totally disagree. Just so we don't have to waste time going through this AGAIN, here are the two previous threads where we went back and forth about this for those who would want to read it.
