Who has the best arts and culture will not play a part in my decision making. No need to argue and take a stand.
I am not looking for a place that trying to grow and be metropolitan. I don't want a place that is absorbed in a consumerist culture. I want to be surrounded by people who know how to do stuff other than push paper, kiss butt and get a promotion even though they are already overpaid.
I hear and read comments about how WV is backwards. Sounds good to me. The ways of the past seem better than the present. Rural property with room to breathe on the outskirts of a small city. Ahhh, paradise.

Never said they were inferior. If you want to rehash this topic and see what I did say, all you have to do is re-read the other two threads about the same thing. No need to go through this again. Sorry mezz, this goes back to a difference in personal opinion on the other threads.

Okay, you didn't say they were inferior. Which events have you seen recently?

You know what I'm referring to when I say recent experience. Again, re-read the other threads if you need to refresh your memory.

No offense, fellow. Having a wife from Morgantown does not count as having experience with the arts scene there. Neither does taking her to the inlaws for Thanksgiving dinner.
That said, I am impressed with what they are doing with the Keith Albee. That is probably the most significant development in Huntington in some time.
One thing I hadn't realized is that Keith Albee was a large chain of theaters, including some in the New York City area. Apparently, this will be one of the few remaining. That is a shame because when they take wonderful old structures like that down, they usually end up replacing them with the latest example of bad taste archetecture that will look like it needs to be torn down in 30 years.
By the way, if you will be in the Charleston area you should try to catch what I consider to be the highlight of their arts scene. Wheeling native Tim O'Brien will be performing there and he is excellent.

Hey, weren't you guys just feuding over the North vs South (towns) on the other post. Quit that.

Yes we were which is why I'm referencing those other threads and trying not to do this again. I've sent CT direct messages in an attempt to get this discussion off of the public threads but he doesn't seem to respond to those. Believe me, I'd rather not do this but when my opinion/experience is different than someone else's I put it on here just so people know what's here in WV and can get different points of view. That's what this forum is about, building up WV through experiences and opinions. I just wish the back and forths didn't go on and on as they often become counterproductive. But I'm with you Vec.

Not me, I beat them until they agree to capitulate to my point of view. I call it Mollification Of Competeing Knowlege, or MOCK.
So now, on topic; I'm an engineer (EE), I found plenty of work! I chop wood, plow fields, shovel poo, pull weeds... shucks, there's plenty of work for an engineer in WV!

Yeah. That's what I think I like so much about this state. No one is afraid to get their hands dirty. Shovel poo? Well, I might have to do some real soul-searching for that task...
PS I love all the selection of smiley faces on the side bar when I write posts especially the blue on that looks like it is gasping.
