Just for clarification, my wife wrote the post at the top of the previous page. She wanted to respond to this thread and didn't have her own account. Just wanted to clarify that for people who read my other posts. I had completely forgotten about that.

Don't move to Beckley....Cost of living is based on coal miners pay and is way out of touch. Try Braxton County. Nice little area and remote.

7 cents KWH, natural gas to my home in charleston is at a rate of $14.95 MCU (sorry, I can't find the translation in terms of 'therms' just yet). Renting or buying a home? However you heat a home (and how well insulated it is) will determine the cost.
Want to avoid high heating bills, stay out of the upper elevations on the far eastern side of the state (as pretty as they are, it's a whole other growing zone). I only know this because I was looking to avoid the cold when I was doing my own homework. The real estate is also higher priced there, not as conducive to fixed income economics because the price of everything goes up as a result of higher overhead.
Suddenlink and DirectTV offer high speed digital access, confirm with them their area of coverage before you decide where to relocate.
Major hospitals in Charleston, Huntington, and Morgantown areas as far as I know. Others I'm just not aware of as a new resident of WV. Doesn't mean you have to necessarily live in those cities, just close enough to be able to get to your doctors. You didn't mention your transportation situation, and that's something you should also factor into the equation. Good luck!

1 Therm is ~ 100CF, or 0.1 MCF. So a price of $14.95/MCF = $1.495/Therm.

You might do well to rent a room in someone else's house rather than find an apartment of your own. I know several people who rent out a room to help pay bills and make ends meet. Share the cost of the phone rather than foot the bill yourself. Call a few of the newspapers in the general area you are focusing on and see what is available, or place an ad yourself that you are looking for a room to rent.

I am a man on disability and I have a strong desire to move to West Virginia based on what I've heard about the cost of living, its people, climate and all of its beauty. There is a lot of information about the state on the web but I need a more "personalized" version.
I am interested in finding a small to medium sized town/city to move to. I enjoy living in smaller towns, but I do need to have access to nearby doctors, grocery stores and things of that nature. One of my biggest concerns is the fact that I am on a fixed income due to my disability and I need to find a location where I can find affordable rent that may have utilities included in the rent. The reason for this is that it is so much easier for me to budget my monthly bills if I do not have to worry about the electric and heat and such.
Another big factor, and I know this may seem odd to some, but my life is pretty much spent inside my house/apartment. That being said, my social network is basically on the internet at this point in my life. It is very important that I have access to high speed internet where ever I may live. Also important would be cable tv. I know these may seem like "luxuries" to some people but they honestly are what I live for considering the circumstances of my life at this time.
In closing a basically need a low cost of living in a relatively safe area. An efficiency or inexpensive 1 bedroom apartment is fine for me. If any of you could point me to a city that would be a good "fit" for someone like me I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks so much for your help and time.

i love these three places princeton bluefield beckley they should have every thing you are looking for and probably more on the rent you could probably call up a few realitors and see about these appartments and see what they offer i have not lived in these areas for about 5 years but its where my doctors are ,but i am seriously thinking about moving up there soon .they are pretty places and probably the cheapest places to live if you go up toward hunington and morgontown and places like that the cost of living will go up because of the city being bigger .i would move there tomorrow if i could
