I've lived in Morgantown as well as the Ridgeley area. I don't know your story, but my husband is a disabled vet and we're in a similar situation. Both areas are really great because they have great shopping, restaurants and area hospitals. Morgantown by far has the best hospitals in the tri-state area but the housing can be fairly steep. A few miles south on the interstate is a small city called Fairmont. A hop and a skip away from both Morgantown and Clarksburg, the housing is low and the people there are incredibly friendly. If you're a disabled veteran, the VA hospital is just a few miles away in Clarksburg. If not, Fairmont has it's own hospital and West Virginia University Hospitals are just a few short minutes away in Morgantown. On the downside, the Morgantown area is crawling with annoying college-aged students (I used to be one, I can say that). Ridgeley/ Cumberland are great for families and senior citizens. They have great senior centers in Cumberland and there are always things to do whereas much of the culture in Morgantown entails an active night life. The so-called "puke, MD" is actually right around Westernport, MD. This town is a good 45 minutes away and there is no "smell" in Ridgeley or Cumberland. Good news for Veterans; a new VA may or may not take over Memorial Hospital's current building in Cumberland, if so this could greatly benefit the area. I suggest checking out both Fairmont and Ridgeley, both towns are great although I'm personally relocating from Fairmont to Ridgeley...
