Default Charleston area veterinarian

Hi,
It's come time to find our most important family member..the kittycow, an area doctor. Would you all be so kind as to recommend someone in the Charleston area that, if possible, specialises in cats. I hate to just pick out of the phone book . I'd like first hand accounts of someone you trust your pets to. Thank you so much for any help, opinions with this.
Take care.
Dawn

I absolutely love Cross Lanes Veterinary Hospital. Home

It's called a hospital but they do everything from yearly shots to surgery. The doctors are great and the staff is very friendly - you can tell everyone there really loves animals. They have several doctors on staff but don't go on a Monday AM - they are packed. They have some advanced equipment and get a lot of referrals from other vets around the state and out-of-state. They do not take appointments - I've found mid-week to be the least buys time to go. One of the doctors writes a pet column in the Daily mail.

I've been taking my dog there for 9 years. For 2 years recently, we had one problem after another with her, including cancer. Thank heavens she's been the model of health for the last 6 months. CLVH has taken wonderful care of her.

sugarmama! is on a distinguished road
I take my dogs and cats to Animal Care Associates. It's off of Oakwood Rd, which is off of 119. We're not from the area, so I did not know where to take my pets. I love their staff. All of them are so friendly, helpful, and LOVE animals. They are however, (recently learned) the "most expensive vet" in Charleston. I will continue to go there. If you're looking for shots and annual exams only, you can go somewhere else, but if you ever need surgery for your pet, this is the ONLY place to go.

good luck!

Well, guess you have 2 places and you won't go wrong with either. Sugarmama wouldn't take her pet for surgery anywhere but ACA. My dog has had 5 surgeries and I think Cross Lanes Vet Hospital is the ONLY place to go. Isn't it good to know you have great options?

That's what I was looking for! First hand man( or dog or cator..) on the street points of view. My neighbor goes just down the road from me to a vet that' s in front of the animal shelter, but doesn't care them really..so didn't know what to do. My only local info. was a place not to go. So thank you both for your time on this. It is so appreciated. ACA is closer.. but will have to look into the cost as a factor... need the care, but don't currently have the luxury of discounting the cost as a factor when considering. I'll look into both places . I feel good about having heard ,first hand ,such nice things about them as I do set appointments. Thanks again you guys! Kittycow is on daily meds at this point so time was important as she's due for refills etc.. I'll let you know what she thinks of it all when we take her!

Charleston West vets have a good reputation. We live in South Charleston and use Avalon Dog and Cat Hospital. The Emergency Animal Clinic is open nights and weekends too.
