I didn't mean it as a knock when I said "not a whole lot going on" it's just a quiet little place.I mean compared to Parkersburg or Morgantown there's not much there.Nothing wrong with that. I work in Sistersville a good bit as well as Middlebourne and Paden City. Just not a lot going on really in any of them but nothing's wrong with that.

Anyone familiar with the Frank McCoy house that's for sale in Sistersville? I am looking for an old house in a very quiet, small town (for health and teenaged daughter). Would anyone also happen to know if a pharmacy delivers and if there is a SMALL grocery store, where you can park right outside the door and not have to walk too much inside? Thanks!

It roughly parallels the eastern WV-western VA border, but about 50-75 miles into Virginia, along the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. (Despite John Denver's lyrics, the Blue Ridge Mtns aren't in West Virginia.) From Sistersville, Google Maps says it's close to a 5 hour drive to Harper's Ferry.

First of all, it isn't the Blue Ridge "Mountains". As the song says, it is Blue Ridge Mountain. The Blue Ridge is the first mountain in the chain (eastern most) and it does in fact go through West Virginia and even up into Pennsylvania (where it is called Blue Mountain rather than Blue Ridge). While most of the Blue Ridge is in Virginia, you have been listening to too much bogus Charlottesville bull$hit. West Virginia has as much claim to the Blue Ridge as anyone, and since WV's portion isn't in Virginia, that makes that section much more desirable. It is devoid of bubble headed space cadets.

Haha. There is only a smaaaaal portion that runs through the EP. Most of the EP is in the Great Appalachian Valley, or simply Great Valley. We do have claim to the Blue Ridge, but only a wince of it..
Amazingly most of the tallest peaks in the East are located in the Blue Ridge, not in the Western Plateaus as some like to think.

It runs across an entire county in the Eastern Panhandle, so it isn't just a couple miles. It is the prettiest part of the ridge, and has, by far, the most intelligent and enlightened people who live on it.

Well I won't argue about the intelligence, lol.
I've hiked all of the AT in PA, MD, WV and VA.. There are a ton of great places along the way, but nothing is quite as neat as the view of Harpers Ferry from the MD side. What a cool shot that is.

Hey all,
I just had to reply to this thread. I moved from Ohio over 7 years ago to Tyler County (Middlebourne area) and I would not trade it for anything. I love it here, I got away from the fast pace of everyday living and moved to a more relaxed way of living. Sistersville is also a nice area to live, but I have heard some things about the cost of the water bill and sewage....maybe be a little high for some, and average for others.
There is 2 pharmacies in Sistersville and an IGA. There is also a Dairy Queen and a Pizza place, not the average town that I was use to seeing in Ohio.
The speedway is 4 miles from Middlebourne and unless you live near it, you don't hear any of the noises and it's 20 some miles from Sistersville.
There is a consolidated school (middle and high combined) and 2 elementary schools. We also have a museum that holds history of Tyler County residents....it's a 16 room building that use to be the high school before they built the consolidated one. It's a must to see, with a genealogy room.
If you ever want to get away and just see some beautiful county, Tyler County is the place to come.
