Charleston Weather: Dreary All Winter?
Okay, I have another question: is Charleston overcast all winter long? I'm considering moving there. However, when I looked at climate info, one source (I can't remember which) said it was overcast every month out of the year.

This concerns me during the winter months. I am a southerner and I need some sunshine or I will curdle.

Depends on the year. Rough winters have lots of overcast days, mild winters have lots of sunny days. You won't find green trees, etc. in the winter months - everything is dead and brown.

There's nothing prettier than looking out the window, the morning after a snowfall, and seeing a deep blue sky with lots of sunshine lighting up the ice crystals.

You just need to survive december, january and february- it's gloomy and dark. January and february could be snowy. Then-Summer starts quickly and lasts til November.

It's pretty darned overcast in the winter, at least in North Central WV.. A big difference from the Eastern Panhandle where winters were more sunny and crisp.
It's gonna take a little getting used to, and I think we need a woodstove to cheer us up, but yeah- it's a little gloomier. But this past summer was delightful compared to the long stretches of stale humid air back east!

In Charleston we have had some pretty mellow winters within the last few years so had a lot more sunshine - this year is making up for it. Haven't had much snow but sure have had rain and a lot of overcast gloomy days so far this winter.

You could get a natural spectrum lamp like folks use up in Alaska that fights depression in the Winter months. Costco sells them.
Of course, it's a 3+ hour drive to the nearest Costco from Charleston, but you might see some sunlight on the drive there, too.
This sounds nuts to some folks, but I kind of MISS the foggy/Grey days in Winter when I grew up in the Kanawha Valley. It's extremely rare here, but when we do get hard fog mornings in Atlanta in Winter, I'll go out on the deck, look out into the thick fog, and the mist hits my face and makes me go, "ahhhhhh" as I think of back home.

After all, it is winter. You have to expect gloomy days during the winter.
